They think they're pets and come toward us if we're outside at the wrong time. As you can tell by the fuzziness of the pic, I took this shot from a long way off.  affraid

They are beautiful!!! They look young-ish. I had an albino one for a pet named Chuckie ('Chuckie's in Love' was my fave tune at the time). He was so sweet and so much fun. Turned a little yellowish as he got older, and then a little wild, and had to go live on a farm in a fenced in area since he had no stink.

Two finches chirping away while they harvest immature sunflower seeds. Wish they wouldn't scatter them all over the place. It's like they are wasting them.

Yes, they can be wasteful and messy!  My squirrels have discovered the 2 sunflowers that were blown down in a storm near the pool patio...oh jeez!  Z is in a frenzy every AM when he busts out!  Pretty funny....

It's hard to see these finches as their coloring (yellow-green belly) is the same as the sunflower, plus I couldn't get too close.  One is upside down, the other standing guard?

I love those little guys. Every once in a while, on hot days, they come and play in the sprinklers.  Very Happy

I think the caterpillar may be related to or changed into this beautiful and big black swallowtail butterfly that has been flying around our perennial beds for a couple of days.

I did see something quite strange--to me, anyway--the other day.  Unfortunately, I was far from my camera and it moved at incredible speed!

What I saw was a 6"-long, very thin critter, brownish-gray, with a bright blue tail!  It startled me with its snake-lake movements.

I consulted with a gardening neighbor who is an extremely good resource for all kinds of information.  She reported that it's a type of lizard, and toxic to cats.  (Not that they move quite fast enough to catch one!)

Yolos,

Apparently, the critter I saw was indeed a skink.

Skinks are all over my garden.  They don't bother anything but can scare you when you dig in the bed.  They live down in the garden bed and lay their eggs there.  When I try to renovate a bed I almost always find eggs down in the bed.  Then I have to rebury the eggs and not do any digging in that part of the bed.

I believe this strange and wonderful beastie is the caterpillar of a question mark butterfly. I'm hoping it was wandering and not lost. I took the photo early evening, but it was gone in the morning. If it had still been there I would have moved it to the elm tree, which I'd guess is where it came from.

They look like some of the aliens from the movie "Men in Black".

Big Grasshopper...had to shoo him away:

My DW found this big fatty in the yard not in the SFG but it wins as the biggest one we've seen.
