I'm thinking about taking the course that starts on Wed.  What are the advantages?

Depends on your objective.

The course helps firm up the concepts of SFG.  If you want to teach SFG, you should take the class.  There are teaching aids available for those who successfully finish the class.

But, my personal opinion is that to successfully SFG, the ANSFG book and this Forum is all you need.

Hope this helps.

I agree.  I just went thru the course a couple of months ago.  It was good and I'm glad I did it.  But if you're not planning on teaching, I wouldn't take it.

Re: Certified SFG instructor

Thanks for the congrat's
I had to take the course just for my satisfaction.
Heck, I've been instructing for over 2 years now. I carry luscious photo's with me, no matter what garden center I'm in I always find some one to talk about SFG.
Managers, clerks, ceo's, customers, who cares ? I don't, just as long as their sitting or standing still their gonna get my SFG view.
A couple of weeks ago I had the mgr of my local Lowes store going through corporate inventory to see if course vermiculite in 4 cubic foot bags are in inventory, nope it isn't.
I've got something going at our local Senior Center, (social center)...I don't think I want to call it a class because my thoughts are a monthly get together that could turn bi-weekly, or even some day weekly.
A SFG club....SFG group...something along those lines.
And when I'm not available any more it can carry on in itself.
The club Mgr. even has a small plot that is usable if I want it..I do want it, however, I am deep into my own garden work, along with house repairs, painting, vacationing, music, computer clubs, etc..oh yes and HONEYDOOS.
I just wonder if 30 or 40 years ago, while I was deep into heavy fishing, if I found SFG then, how would that have turned out...hhhhhmmmmm

I wish I still had a HONEYDOO. Very Happy Generally I was the HONEYDOO that did. Very Happy

Good job I was a tomboy with three brothers so I was able to learn a lot of non-girly stuff. I must admit that in my very young days I wished I had been born a boy only because they seemed to have so much more fun. Now I am happy with myself and that mostly I am able to get things done. Having friends helps, of course.
With hindsight, the fact that I was the only girl in the family must have brought out their protective instincts. I was always safe with my big brothers.

Congrats jimmi cee on becoming  Certified SFG instructo.. I thought you would get there someday as you are such an enthusiastic gardener. It is wonderful how you spread the word. I hope you have not gone overboard this year with the production of compost. I always remember those ten compost piles you built your first year and the thought that you were turning them when at the same time I was turning my first one after the winter and knowing what a lot of work it was.

Thanks Jan
I did not turn any piles since last fall, only stuck the winger down and loosened it up a bit.
I have 2 piles that are ready and have been for a while, + the recycle center will be offering their yearly batch of compost. I try to get around 25 five gallon buckets, wife likes them better than mine.... Shocked

Yes, Jimmy, I remember you did not turn all of them, as the next year when you posted a picture most of them had gone. I had to Smile , as I reckoned you had taken on more then you could chew.

Finally got to seed potato's today, 40 seed potato's and 40 to go.
Grids are up in 3 beds. I had to get new rechargeable batteries today, wore one set out.
I love posting a pic about what I'm talking about, don't they say "picture is worth 1,000 words ?"
