Hello from the Florida Panhandle

Post  davecourington on Wed 11 Jun 2014 - 11:35

I am not new to gardening, been doing that for a lot of years (30+) but in rows... Now trying the SFG for the first time. I love it so far, it was a bit expensive up front but the results are pretty good so far. I have a bit of everything growing at this time in MM. And it is all doing fairly well with the exception of Cabbage, Broccoli, and Cauliflower, but i will just replant them in August for Fall Crops. I look forward to reading and seeing everyone's stuff on here. I will be posting some pics of my harvests as they come in. We grow a lot for canning as well, it is just me and my daughter who is 6, but she is an avid gardener and we are learning the SFG method together.

Dave and Daughter,  Welcome to the Forum!  glad you\'re here  I take it that you have a copy of the book All New Square Foot Gardening by Mel Batholomew.  Yes, there are expenses up front, but after that it's basically a matter of adding more compost before replanting.  Simple.  Very Happy

We share a copy, she just turned 6 so a lot of it is beyond her reading right now but she does understand what we are doing and helped in the building and planting. She also talks to the plants and loves to pick and help me can everything. She also enjoys eating it a lot more since she has to work for the food... I do like the book and have had good success with many of the plants. I will be posting my pic as soon as I can take some good ones of the plants now that they are producing. I also will show everyone my redneck bean towers!!! Made from dollar store hula hoops and cotton twine. They work great and the amount of plants on them is amazing.
