Veteran compost

Post  moswell on Mon Jun 23, 2014 1:43 pm

Hi mid-Atlantic folks!  Have any of you used Veteran Compost (based in Aberdeen, MD)?  Either their compost or their SFG mix?  They've got a pick-up spot a couple towns over from me and I was thinking of buying my supplies from them.  I'd love to know what you think of the quality if you've used it!

Thanks!  So since their compost is the equivalent of "home made" it should satisfy the "five types" requirement, right?  The SFG mix is like $9 a cubic foot, but since I will have just moved I'm thinking of ponying up for 1 4x4 boxes' worth of the mix (to get started right away), and then compost for the other boxes in the future!

I believe one of the forum members was instrumental in getting a good mix set up with them.  Have heard nothing but good things!

sfg4ukim, a certified instructor and regional host, worked with Veteran's Compost to develop the growing mix they sell.  It can't be called MM, but it meets the MM requirements.  The compost is good stuff.

I bought a yard of it last year and another yard this year.  Justen (owner) is a great guy and for a fee even delivered it to me this year as we were having problems getting to him this year.  The mix is great - well mixed.  I have not had any problems growing - and the only problems I had this year were my own doing - my personal compost...  I'm hoping to get some worms and maybe even a worm bin this year - just haven't gotten around to it.
