My Cukes died again!

Post  floyd1440 on 8/6/2014, 6:52 am

This is the third year I have tried to grow cucumbers and they have been a failure.  Out of 4 plants I got 2 cucumbers then the leaves began to wilt and the plant just dies while everything else it doing fine.

I took last years plant to a guy in a nursery and he said it looked like bacterial wilt so I got  brand that is supposed to be resistant to that, Country Fair, and the grew 5 foot high but then succumbed to the same fate.

Grew them much later this year as some had suggested but it doesn't seem to have helped much.

Should I try again or just move on to another plant as it seems I am just wasting squares? affraid

have you seen cucumber beetles on the plants? If yes, they need to be controlled. Cucumber beetle is the vector for several diseases. Also, beef up the growing medium with good compost for more vigorously healthy plants.

Did check for beetle and haven't seen any.  My wife make an interesting observation as they began to die after I pulled cucumbers off the plants.

Do you need to cut them?

I usually cut them off to preve to damage to the plants.
