Article in today's local paper

Post  rillgardens on 16th August 2014, 8:01 am

Well I've done it now!  Now that the word is out I'm in a grocery store rebellion I cannot step foot in one till November.  In our small town I'll be 'fronted' off if someone sees me!  So I guess I'll have to send the husband in for that block of yeast for the blackberry wine I'm going to start tonight!

I was interviewed this past week for this article.  Quite well written.....enjoy!

Long and substantial article, and you come off as being very together and thoughtful.  Great job and congrats!

Boy do I envy you your greenhouse, LOL!

How nice that you're involved with the community, too.

Lynn, the guy who owns the biggest nursery here, Chet's, is moving down to Brookings at the end of December. December 24th will be his last day here. He's opening up a new, smaller garden shop and nursery in Brookings, right by the Chet ... something or other .... river? culvert? He'll keep the name Chet's, as it will fit right in and that's the name his business has become known by.

He's been in Grants Pass for 20 years now, and says with Walmart and Home Depot and 20 other competitors now, he can't do well economically here anymore without expanding, and he hasn't been able to buy adjoining land, so he's closing down Chet's.

His name is Cliff Bennett, and he's a terrific guy. Really nice and incredibly knowledgeable. He owned a landscaping business before he became a nursery owner, so his knowledge base is very broad and deep. He maintains great hanging baskets all around the city, not even charging for his labor, and they really beautify our small-city downtown. He also helps lecture at the Master Gardeners yearly courses.

I thought I'd mention it to you, in case you wanted to ever do something with him in your area. Perhaps Brookings could use a civic-minded all around good fellow like Cliff, or you might find interesting learning or professional activities with him and his new nursery?
