Staying out of the way

Post  SQFTBIX on 9/3/2014, 10:32 am

Lesson learned.  This summer was extremely hectic to say the least.  Our good and faithful "puppy" of over 15 years had to be put down due to failing health.  Very tough but it had to be done. Sad  I will miss my garden buddy!  We had all sorts of activities going on not to mention the normal hustle and bustle of everyday life and of course - vacations.  Needless to say - the garden took a back seat to priorities and urgent matters.
Guess what?  The garden did very well despite my inattentiveness.  I have a bunch of green tomatoes, green peppers and a few leftover cucumbers. My biggest nemesis was our squirrel population.  They certainly worked hard this year and seemed more damaging than any other year I can remember.  Not sure what that was about but like they used to say, plant 2 for me and one for the wildlife.
So, even though I think I am in charge, my results show that it's Mother Nature who is in control.

P.S.  I am currently training up a new garden buddy.  He seems to like it out by the garden.  Good dog Barkley!

Sorry you lost your dog! A lot of people know how that feels.

Glad you didn't lose your garden!

And good thing you've got a new dog in your life. They sure are a wonderful addition to a life. Post a picture sometime!

I'm so sorry about your buddy, SQFTBIX.

And I'm happy you've found a new partner.

My sentiments, also.  So sorry.

I will add my condolences as well; being a pet parent can be heartbreaking.

Our 13 YO Beagle went to doggie heaven on June 24, one week before my mom passed away. - you have my deepest sympathies.

I just finished working on a blog post for GRIT Magazine that talks about my neglected garden and also about grief and gardening. Happy that there's still something there.

I have seen women looking at jewelry ads with a misty eye and one hand resting on the heart, and I only know what they're feeling because that's how I read the seed catalogs in January - Barbara Kingsolver - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle
