Another request for non-flash - Mobile site

Post  filthydirtyjeepgirl on 5/2/2010, 9:24 pm

Hi, i was sorry to see that the non-flash site thread was locked. I wanted to throw my support in for a slightly different modification (and reason for it) - a mobile specific site.

It need only be very simple - no need to contain the brochureware/marketing information on the main site, but more to be a quick reference guide for those of us (literally!) in the field. For example, I am trying to start a SFG community implementation in my neighborhood and wanted - needed - to find a reference via my iphone regarding plant spacing today while meeting with neighbors. Frustrating to find I could not get ANYTHING. I even looked for an ebook on amazon's ebook app - found all sorts of competing books (cube foot gardening, square inch gardening) and pondered buying and downloading one, but didn't want to switch conceptual horses midstream.

I'm not a programmer so I can't help out there, but I do design large web applications for clients like the VA for a living. I am happy to assist in this matter in producing a simulation (pro bono) of what I think would be a good mobile version of the site to get Mel's approval on. From what I've read, the Adobe/Apple spat isn't going to go away any time soon, and from what I understand, sites would need to be ported to the new flash, anyway. Your non-flash thread seemed to indicate that it would be difficult to do any additional work on the site, so even porting doesn't sound likely.

As an alternative, maybe the content just needs to be placed out on the wikipedia site.

Thanks for considering...please let me know if you'd like more information. I hope you take this offer in the spirit it's offered - that of willingness to help further a concept I believe in, and not that of complaining or boasting that I can do it better. i know you all are busy, but I felt it was important to know another use for a non-flash site.
