Introduction

Post  TNbob on 9/10/2014, 9:29 pm

Just coming onboard.  I have dabbled in the old fashioned garden for past couple of years with moderate success with standard stuff:  Tomatoes, green peppers, squash etc.  I am finding it to be too much work for the output.  An acquaintance told me about this site and after a quick review I plan to give it a try next season.

No specific questions at this time.  But I look forward to interacting in the near future.

Welcome TNbob!

It sounds like you know already that great soil leads to great gardens. The Mel's Mix growing medium, if you don't skimp on it, should make your gardens very productive, and, along with raised beds, tends to make people very happy they gave square foot gardening a try. I hope you find it works out as well for you as you hope, and that you feel free to ask the very experienced and helpful people here any questions that cross your mind. And please share your thoughts with us when you can. Everyone loves reading about the next person's gardening growth and adventures.

TNBob, Welcome to the Forum from California! glad you\'re here

This is a great time to start your compost pile so it's ready come spring. Use the Search box for all kinds of topics, especially in your Region. If you don't already have one, get a copy of All New Square Foot Gardening, 1st or 2nd Ed., by Mel Bartholomew. Before you build, ask questions. We are here to help and we can be a chatty group. If you have nearby trees or bushes, consider raised beds or even a couple of table tops. Want to grow long rooted plants like carrots or parsnips, build one that is deeper than the standard 6".
