Let me know how the stringless grow and taste. I find if you pick the beans when they are small the strings are not as bad.
I grew the Purple pole beans last year and found them to be the same as Kentucky Wonder. They grew well but I did not let them get to big for the strings. It is cool to see them change color to green when you cook them!

We like the Kentucky Wonder Pole beans the best and they grow well here in LA. Yesterday I picked our first handful of beans and it will not be long that I will have to pick every day. The Trellis is 7 foot tall and as you can see they are tall and full.

I don't know what spider mites look like! (I'm a Master Gardener, so that is embarrassing to admit!). I know they weren't underwater so I am still at a loss. Yesterday, I took them out and replanted..will see what happens? I keep telling myself that this is just an experiment.

Good attitude, momvet. The experiment is never really over until you are. But until then, anything can happen, and it's all easy to forget if you don't write it down. You might want to keep a gardener's log of some sort, so year by year you can see when to expect which bugs and diseases on what days or at what temperatures, etc. What varieties behaved in which peculiar way, etc. That way you'll slowly take some of the randomness out of things, and see how your experiences do or don't match up to the books and website advice, so you can better interpret how what other people say and experience applies to your area and you personally.

Ryan and Nar56 -- beautiful beans! I tend not to cook the purple ones, just because the color is irreplaceable and makes such an eye-catching contrast on the plate.

Kathy, Before you replant add in some new compost or at least some organic fertilizer.  The beans look low nitrogen to me but it is hard to tell....

Good luck on the second try.

If at first you do not fricassee/ fry fry a hen.  Very Happy

Yesterday I planted my beans in the regular beds. Venture bush bean, KW and Violet on the ends. They have an arch to grow up. The Helda romano beans in the greenhouse are just sending up stalks to start running up the strings. So excited to see that.

KY Wonder with Toms in a 2' x 4' bed. The beans on the right with an EMC and netting trellis and the Toms on the left with PVC and Florida weave.

I have 3 good sized containers in the fridge of deep red, vine-ripened 'maters.  There is never a middle ground, from nothing to too many, LOL!  They are so sweet, who needs fruit :-)

Too many is almost impossible for me. If I could get all my liquids in the form of tomatoes, I probably would.
