Winter Storms 2014-2015

Post  sanderson on 12/11/2014, 3:44 am

The West coast will be battered by the Pineapple Express starting Thursday, the worst storm in years. The East coast has already been affected by snow and cold.

Please be safe. Have provisions for a few days (2-3 days for West coast). Candles, flashlights, animals all safe-warm-dry.

Please post photos as you can.

It's coming. It was 67° yesterday morning, so I opened the doors to warm the house up! Wind knocked out power for half a day.

I hadn't heard that there is a Pineapple Express on its way. Shocked

I thought it was normal December weather.

We here in British Columbia Southern Interior are expecting 15 to 25 mm of rain over the next 24 hours, coming up from California, Oregon and Washington State. So nice of you to share. Very Happy At least I do not have to shovel it.

CC, it's called the Pineapple express because it generally comes from Hawaii.
It brings lots of rain, seldom snow. We get most of our snow from the Artic or from the prairies.
The above is applicable to British Columbia.  I expect other places have their names for weather systems.

I was watching the news and Christmas Tree Lane was raining. I go outside and we were just starting to sprinkle. It's raining softly right now. I don't think our wind got up to even 10 mph. I hope your greenhouse survives in good shape. I don't have mine up this winter. I will start with new peppers and eggplants next year, including the seeds you sent me. thanks

We in the UK are posh , we have what is being termed as a " weather bomb "

It's giving atrocious weather up in Scotland and the outer isles , lots of my internet friend up there are off line because of wind ,snow and falling trees etc .
By the look of things most will be without land lines or power for a few days or so. Mobile phone coverage up in some parts is dismal to say the least .

Tonight here in South Wales we are due to get some rather brisk winds & heavy rain tonight  Last night / this morning  we got five inches of rain in my big wheel barrow , so in reality about 3 & 1/2 " in a rain gauge.
I'm about to do a garden patrol to tidy thing away & and weight things down .

Stay safe & warm folks
Dave

Just fine here.  Rained all night, raining this morning, no wind that I heard anyway.

Good soaking rain, I have no idea how much we actually got in total, but it can continue for a week as far as I'm concerned.  We need it.

Our rain didn't appear neither did the winds .. .

I went out to the car to take Munchkin to the doctors with a temp of just over 39 oC at 16.45 and the car doors were frozen solid .

After pouring two buckets of cold water carefully  over them around the top edges they opened , I then had to scrape ice off the window screen ,  side windows and sit in the car with the engine on at 2,000 rpm for a good seven min before it defrosted enough on the inside to allow me to drive the 2 miles to the surgery .. heavens only knows what they will be like tomorrow.

The doctor told Alison we should drive back home with the windows open to help drop her temperature  as quick as possible by a couple of degrees. It seems she had had a winter virus attack that is really hitting the locality .

Poor little bunny , she was shaking like a leaf ... but it worked .

Munchkin is now flat out in her bed ,  with a big bowl of dairy ice cream inside her , a double dose of Calpol , along with the first dose of a weeks antibiotics at four times a day .

Agreed. A true meteorological term, Pineapple Express is a nameof a particular weather pattern/phenomena, similar to Alberta Clippers, or Nor'Easters being certain types of weather.

+1 It's hard when a child is sick.

There is a wonderful virus going around: upper and lower GI (vomiting and diarrhea) and fever (chills and aches). Oh, just wonderful.

I think it's called the " Noro virus " , you have to stand at the victims side rather than at the front or rear . What a Face

Munchkin is much brighter this afternoon having had some chocolate added to a milk based porridge ( Everything is better with chocolate evidently ) .
At present she's sat propped up in my armchair looking some what wipe out , watching some inane screechy Disney mind killer that has four seconds of brain screaming canned laughter every six seconds or so .

On behalf of the family thanks to all who enquired.

Lol, yes David, everything IS better with chocolate. And also sparkly things seem to make life brighter. Some glitter and glue to make her own Christmas cards might be fun.

On to the weather...Pineapple Express = nasty!
The news this morning doesn't look good out there in California. They showed one photo of houses with mud up to the eaves.

How's everyone doing out there? Hoping you are safe.

So glad to hear she's recovering!  I remember how awful I felt when our little ones were feeling badly and there wasn't anything I could do to make them better.

We're somewhat waterlogged but no issues, nothing like over at the coast.

Kelejan, We were going to have dinner with a couple at their house last night (Fri) but the wife came down very sick on Thursday. We missed the exposure by hours. Last report last night, she is still very sick and miserable. Poor babe.
