Hello TSHRED.
I just saw your thread and I too am building some table top beds so I was very interested in what you are doing.

Yes they are!

I presume this is going to be a vegetable garden, so any concern about chemicals leaching into the plants from the paint? I didn't see it in the pictures, but did you line it with plastic before adding the soil?

Those don't look like 1/4" holes. What size are they? I went with 1/4" in my plywood because that's what the SFG book said, but I am thinking they might be too small, especially since I you and I believe Sanderson put in larger holes

I love the look of the finished beds. Very clean and neat. Although I just want to stucco those blocks (Sorry, I did that work for about 10 years and when I see cinder block, I think stucco Very Happy )

@TSHRED wrote:Drip system in!

That may be something I do in the future. It seems like it really helps but I just don't have the time this year.
Also, did you paint your boxes again? They look like a different color...maybe it's just the lighting

I wasn't too concerned about the paint. Yes it's all painted with latex based paint and stain for the bottom.
I sealed the seams with caulking also.
The holes, if I remember, were 1". That's a bit much I think. It runs off quickly.
The drip system was overkill I think. Lots of water in a very short time and it runs straight down through without spreading much.
I've hand watered 99% of the time from my rain barrel.

Thanks for the compliments!

TShred- Love your beds. I would not worry about stucco. They are very finished-looking with the paint. One worry about stucco is the dirt splash-up during rain, so, as it is, you don't have that extra worry! Very Happy

As far as holes, I finally settled on 3/4." Just my personal decision.

TSHRED - are you an engineer or a woman in disguise?  Your boxes are amazing, well thought out and beautiful.

I am jealous.  Rolling Eyes

I have saved your thread to my favorites.

Keep the pictures and the information coming.

I was just kidding about the stucco. I apologize if it didn't come across that way. I think the block looks fine. Like I said earlier, I used to do stucco work for a living so when I see cinder blocks, I think of stucco.

Great design, TSHRED, those cinder block stands have a nice clean look and look so easy to make.  Did you use any mortar with them, or are they just stacked there?  Your "neglected" beds look beautiful.

I have to laugh when TSHRED talks about his "neglected" BEDS. You are too modest.

Ralitaco, I knew it was a joke (since you had been in stucco work) and I think everyone else knew it was just a joke.
