Slow learner

Post  johnp on 1/19/2015, 8:36 am

Last Sat. I finally started cleaning out my beds that were supposed to be done last fall. I got most all of them cleared and three or four cleaned and ready to recharge with compost. Sunday I started adding compost and got two 4x4's and half of a 4x8. The other half was still partly frozen in spots. So I mixed another batch of my different composts and took it to the one bed I have on the West side of my house. The other bed on this side is already planted in garlic and shallots. Well I started digging up the MM cleaning out the last of the roots and wondering why the plants in this bed had so many, many roots. Suddenly it dawned on me, there is a cottonwood tree 15 ft. away and  my box is filled with tree roots like Jimmycee had. Took me two years to figure this out ?? Embarassed I think I got enough out to use it one more season but will make it a raised box for nest year. This is the same tree that got into my septic tank about 8 years ago and cost me plenty to repair it. Think I could figure out where those roots came from!
