Absence in the offing.

Post  plantoid on 3/16/2015, 9:27 am

After many years of spinal problems I have been meylogramed , x-rayed , Cat Scanned &   MRI'd goodness knows how many times .. The latest machine in the new hospital 20 miles away is fantastic.
It's pictures are like looking at me laid out opened up on a butcher slab but in grayscale rather than full colour ( that will come one day I'm sure )

The latest set of pictures have finally been assessed as me having two spinal stenosis that are digging at spinal nerves  in my lumbar spine and that there are three places where the disc's have collapsed and are pressing on the spinal cord.

To cut the story shorter I'm considered a good candidate for successful surgery that ought to keep me out of a wheel chair or from being paralyzed from the belly button down to the soles of my feet.  There are greater than normal risks  for a successful outcome for many reasons , some will see me back on here others will not .
Whilst it won't cure the original long term  spinal damage I have it  should help with pain and nerve irritation problems
Having had over 20 years of miserable discomfort etc with  the original back injury & for the last nine years the additional difficulties I'm now very happy to chance my arm on anything .

I could be called forward for surgery at a few hours notice anytime in the next six weeks as I had a pre op assessment on Friday afternoon & was given the all systems go hand shake .

Should the spinal op be a success six weeks or so later I'll be booked in for a new left knee joint  .. with about the same chances of success/failure  as above .

I'll like as not be doped up with even more morphine & be out my tiny mind for a lot of this down time .

So if I'm not online for a few weeks or more ,& people start asking where am I  will some of you let folk know where I am please ..

Okie dokie, David.  We'll pass on the info.

I sure hope they call you quickly so you can live with out pain once again.  My mother is in the same boat waiting on 2 knee replacement surgeries.  So I'm sending well wishes, and pray that both of you are the perfect candidates for these surgeries and have better than expected results!

I hope you find great relief with the surgeries.  Yes, maybe Allison can keep us updated.  DH is prepared to report in to the Forum if I am indisposed for any reason.

He is a specialist  surgeon who only does lower spines , he  has a good history of successes in my problem areas both as success of operation & recovery and most importantly the patient staying alive after the event for many years . Laughing

They say laughter is the best medicine so keep up your wicked sense of humor.  And good luck on the surgery.  You will be missed, but this is a good reason.  If good thoughts/karma help , I'm sure you will have a forum full going your way.

Good luck, Plantoid!

Backs can be such misery. Hope it goes well for you.

On the positive side, knee replacements are standard these days and seem to have great results so regularly as to be predictable. They are so much better with joints these days than even ten or twenty years ago. Best of luck to your host of problems. We need you back here and hope you're happily and frequently contributing soon!

My father-in-law fell 2 floors on a construction site in the 50s, he was hospitalized for a whole year.
Given a 50/50 chance of recovery after an operation he opted to continue living in pain.
We only wish he had the expertise that exists now.
The pain he lived with surely shortened his life, we hope your operation is successful and recovery is speedy...

Jimmy, I'm sorry about your father-in-law. As much as we get nostalgic about the simpler times, the one thing I am happy about today are the advances in medicine and surgery.
