The morning standoff

Post  johnp on 5/1/2015, 8:39 am

These are not good pictures as it was before light with a telephoto. Shot out my front window.

King of the hill:

One of the local feral cats:

The chase:

It all ended well.

We had a cock pheasant  hopping along the SFG raised beds this morning ...the dog went loopy as he could smell the bird due to the window trickle air vents being open  ,  the bird just ignored him as it dragged out yet another  young strawberry plant before taking a flying dive over the fence into the wood land at the back of the garden  .

Come the end of the breeding/closed  season at the end of August  I'll get even Twisted Evil ..
I wonder what roasted strawberry pheasant smells & tastes like  Laughing ?

Your event brought back a fond memory of hunting pheasants. We were in eastern Kansas and it was bitterly cold with snow and wind. I was bundled up with everything I had and was carrying my 20 gauge because it was lighter. I kept missing every shot and my chocolate lab turned and gave me the look like what the h--- are you doing. He then turned and ran down to a snow bank and dived in. Seconds later he emerged with a young cock. He carried it back and dropped it at my feet, stepped back and sat and just looked at me. Embarassed

Why do people believe that dogs (AND other animals) can't talk or express emotions?

Great story, John!

Thanks all the story is really true except I was in Western Kansas not eastern. My wife and I were talking about going back to RI to visit the grandkids and I just had east on my mind. Rolling Eyes

John,  good dog story.  I shared with my husband (from MO) and he got a kick out of it.

Got a kick out of this one. No pheasants down here but we had them back in Mich.
Mom was working in the garden when someone flushed some up and shot one. It dropped not too far from Mom, after she got done with him I don't think he ever came back to our area again.
