Hello from "Virginny" (VA)

Post  Zmoore on 5/4/2015, 1:15 pm

Hello,
Live in Spotsylvania County, West of Fredericksburg.  Grew up in the area.  My Mom and Dad were and still are avid gardeners (mostly conventional gardens, though they do have some box gardens now.  Dabbled in gardening when I was younger with my parents.  Generally got away from gardening, then tried a few times over the last 10 year or so to do something, but the deer in my area are vicious.  They beat me every time.  Last year was my first year trying box gardening along with a wire cage to protect the garden.  I actually got some stuff to grow and not be mauled by the deer!  My gardens needed a little improvement though.
So, year two. Added a few more boxes and some Mel's Mix and the grids for "true" square foot gardening.  My original beds were plain topsoil (screened) with some compost added, about 12" deep.  Mel would be disappointed Smile
Anyway, really enjoying my gardening now.  Lot of hard work to get things up and running, but I have high hopes for this year.
