I decided to harvest the stuff in the composter today.  I got a wheel barrel full of compost.  It probably contains some original soil from some clods of grass we threw in. We throw in our kitchen scraps, some grass clippings, weeds from weeding the flower beds, etc. I used some plastic hardware cloth to filter the compost and what did not go through the holes went back into the composter.

More photos of the flower non-SFG areas, in particular around the pond.

South edge of pond with Welcome stone.

Alysum pot with ferns in the background.

Hostas on east side of pond.

Mint grows like crazy around the pond.

The mint sometimes gets into the water.

Hen and chicks at the pond.

Hostas with mint growing like a weed in between them.

Elephant ear hosta. This is one of my favourites.  It grows huge.

Smoothie looks great! How did it taste? You have grapes, and what are the orangey things behind them?

Those orange 'things' look like carrots.  Always a good thing in smoothies.
Your garden is looking great.  It should be a wonderful year for you.  Good luck, cheers

The orange things in the smoothie are carrots. The smoothie was great. I usually put in some banana but did not do so this time. Without the banana the spinach taste came through more than usual and my wife did not like it so much.

In the SFG I have some red cabbage leaves that I can harvest.  I found a smoothie recipe for red cabbage and blueberries. Can't wait to give that one a try.

Ummmm....  Thanks, TD!

I did notice that there's 97 grams of carbs in there, so I'll have to cut it in half.  Or at least do something about all the banana.  But it looks really good.  And SUCH a pretty color!

AM ... The recipe writer says, "This recipe makes a large, 32-ounce smoothie. It is a meal-replacement smoothie and not a snack."  That's a big smoothie! So cutting it in half or sharing it with others should do it.

Update for Monday June 22, 2015 on Box #2.

First the spinach.  Looks like it is starting to bolt. Should I harvest it all?

Box #2 looking good.  The pole beans have now gone beyond the top of the trellis.

Flower on pepper plant.

A small eggplant fruit developing on the plant.

Flowers starting on the melon plants.

TD, Your garden is a great example of slowly converting a row garden area into a SFG.

Beautiful! Flowers already, wow. I have buds on the peppers but no flowers yet. Yes, pull the spinach...unless you want to save your own seeds. I left in 2 of the best performers for seed this year.

Time to harvest the spinach square in Box #2. It's so exciting to see how well things grow in the SFG boxes, how easy it is to maintain, and how nice the crops taste. I have two squares now ready for replanting. What to plant? Decisions, decisions, decisions ...

In the SFG Box.

My SFG is going to be on its own for almost two weeks. I'm not sure what to expect when I get back. We've never had a problem leaving our tarditional garden unattended for a week or so.  Hopefully my neighbour will be kind enough to water the SFG if needed. The 14 day weather trend show 3 days with 60% to 70% chance of rain. I could return to find a jungle or a shriveled up desertscape. Today I need to plant a couple of squares that already have been harvested.

It's a jungle!  Been away for 12 days and just got back home late this afternoon.  The SFG boxes are now overflowing ... so much so that I cannot get the chicken wire cage back on one of them after I took it off.

SFG Box#1 with chicken wire cage still on.

SFG Box#2 with chicken wire cage still on.

SFG Box#1 with chicken wire cage removed.
