Cape Coddess, you must have been watching the same episode of the old Art Fleming Jeopardy that I watched, because I remember that being the final answer in an episode circa 1970.

Who is Calvin Coolidge?

Which one is Grace Coolidge and which one is Rebecca Coolidge?

Actually, I was watching "Backstairs at the White House" on DVD and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a racoon waddling through the White House at the same time I was having my coon problem a couple weeks ago.
Great series, btw.

PS Speaking of Jeopardy, did you see "kinky boots" the other night?  I laughed for a good 5 minutes on that one.
darn funny

Out of respect for Mr. Fleming, who was not happy with what they did with the show in the present rendition, I do not watch the show any more.

I actually worked with Fleming in a way for two years.  He moved to St. Louis and became a host of a Sunday night radio trivia show on KMOX radio with an expert trivia meister named David Strauss, aka Mr. Trivia.

They frequently were stumped and needed help with sports trivia, I would call in to help them out, as KMOX reaches Nashville easily at night.

After a couple months of answering sports trivia questions (the type where callers would want to know answers to questions they did not know the answers to), they began calling out for the sports guy in Nashville to call in and help them out.

At the time, I was actually on air as a sports reporter at WLAC in Nashville, and when I told the show's producer that I worked for a CBS affiliate, they began calling me on Sunday night to appear on the show.  I never actually met Fleming in person but talked with him on the phone.  Suffice it that he loathed the new Jeopardy and believed that it had been dumbed down to the point where any average person could win big.

He also did not like that they took the main reason why the show was called "Jeopardy," when they decided that contestants could not buzz in until the complete answer had been read by the host.  It was designed so that a contestant could place themselves in jeopardy by buzzing in immediately after the category and dollar amount had been announced.  It was designed so that contestants could assume their competence on a certain subject and buzz in before they could even read the answer themselves.

A third issue Fleming had with the new version, is that they no longer allowed the non-winning contestants to keep what they won.  He thought it was bush league that they gave away cheap parting gifts so they could hype two more advertisements.

Great insight Razed Bed, must have been a fun time in your life...and I agree with every quibble Flemming has about the new version, just not the same.

This thread started off with us having raccoons under our front porch. They seem to have left for the woods. Then we had hornets building a nest under our front porch eaves. They have been zapped. This morning we awoke to the smell of skunk! I hope it has not taken up residence.

Enough now with the raccoon stories (they were enjoyable) ... let the skunk stories begin.

Rocky Raccoon

Post  Razed Bed on 5/30/2015, 12:59 pm

My wife has a 30+ year old picture of me feeding Rocky Raccoon way back in the good ole days.  This picture was taken when he had just started to come into the house to eat.

He was so gentle taking the dog food chunks out of my hand, making sure to grasp with his palms and never once ever scratching me.  He was the sweetest, most docile wild animal, and he was super affectionate, wanting to sit with us on the couch.

This was many pounds and muscles ago.  And, it was two den remodels ago.

I remember MANY years ago being up at our family place in NH.  One evening we're standing in the kitchen talking & my grandmother sees a coon coming onto the porch.  "Oh, let me get him an egg."  She feeds him.  Then all of the sudden he runs off.

We're all standing there wondering why he left...  and here comes a skunk onto the porch!  (We talked Mum into not feeding him...!)
