Hello from Maine!

Hi all! I saw a square foot garden in my new community garden and immediately went home and googled what it was because it made immediate sense to me and looked so neat! I promptly bought the book, made my mix, and am in the process of putting down my grids and trellis. I am trying to plan my growing season and for the first time feel overwhelmed. Is there anyone out there that has advice for a newb loving order and planning on just how to do it? Love that this forum exists and that I am getting outdoors so much now! Thats all for now! Aschel

Aschelonthebeach, Welcome to the Forum from California! glad you\'re here Quite a few gardeners up your way. It really helps folks if they know your growing environment. Can you modify your "Location" to include Maine, plus a city or town would be even better?

Welcome Aschelonthebeach.  On what beach?  Old Orchard by any chance which was my old haunt until 10 years ago?
I'm happy to see another Mainer on SFG.  I've been growing and posting here for at least 5, maybe more years.  I've had to downsize because of a lower energy level as I'm getting older and with my SFG being up a rather steep hill from my kitchen door.  But I'm here to help if you need it.
Now is the time to transplant tomatoes in your garden and next week or even the end of this week, the peppers.  The cold crops should have gone in weeks ago so don't waste your time on those for now.  Start earlier next year for broccoli, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, lettuces, radishes and the like.  But you could still sow sugar snap peas and green beans in your beds.  There's also cucumbers to look forward to and if you like eggplant and squash and zucchini, there's time for sowing those seeds as well.
Check out the New England thread, its pretty popular and will keep you up to date on what others in our area are growing and doing.
I'm sure you'll enjoy your experience.  The food is the best tasting you'll ever eat compared to store-bought anything.
