It's like a sauna outside

Post  Cajun Cappy on 6/12/2015, 4:47 pm

There is still standing water by the back fence and the humidity is very thick and steamy with the evaporation.  I managed to get half of the yard push mowed.  Think I'll take a break and let the shadows lengthen some fore I tackle the other half.  The good news is I fust scored some good Cajun smoked sausage for 2.50$ a lb and got 12 lbs for the freezer.  Bet that would go great with some of that squash we were blessed with. That sausage sounds good.

Good to know you are pacing yourself, Cajan.  I do that too with my mowing.  The main lawn in one go, the roadside verges another go, and all the fiddly bits if I have enough energy left or put that off to another day.

We've got decks on the southeast and northwest parts of the house. We're painting according to whatever part is in the shade.

the weather thingy says the humidity is lile 80% but that is from a dry area with no standing water.  Our country neighbor hood las lost fo standing water in ditches and between cane rows and such with all this adding the humidity is much higher.  It rained again after I finished mowing so now I'll hafta wear boots to weed eat.

We have had the driest June in many years. The past two days have finally brought some much needed rain, about 1.25". Hope Mother Nature gets back on track with the weather.

It's all about the extremes here.  We have 3 weeks of hot temperatures with no rain, and then it rains to the point of flooding the yard with temperatures that would be nice if it wasn't raining.

My wife and I ran out this morning in the thunder and lightning to empty the flooded containers, leaving the flooded squares to fend for themselves when the sky lit up like a giant neon blue.

We lost our phone, cable, and internet service for over an hour, but somehow the power stayed on after flickering for a second.

Up the street was not so lucky.  Their power is out, and with all the outages, it will be some time before they get it back.

I got up at 6 a.m. the last couple days to do yard chores. I hate it, but it's the only way to get anything done before the heat sets in.

At 3 AM it finally starting a light sprinkling. The lightning and thunder show around us last night lasted about 3-4 hours earlier in the evening. Just enough drops to dirty windshields.

I finally got the rest of the yard mowed and it sure was muggy hot.  It worked out good cause when I went out back to save the mower the back area I mowed yesterday was very mushy.

South Fla had one of the driest Junes on record. So far July has been better with a bit of rain. Hoping for a better month.

It was Marie that got the rain. We only got nasty, dirty sprinkles a couple of times. I even pulled off some sun shades for the plants thinking they may actually get 0.01" of rain. Ha!

Woke up this morning to the sound of a nice soaking rain w/ a little thunder/lightning.  I need it!

Looks like we'll be in it for a while according to the radar.

Razed Bed - do you have a generator?  We've got one that came in handy during the ice storm earlier this year...  Ran everything except the stove.  (Our heater is a duel-fuel, so we were able to keep warm.)  Turns out we're the ONLY people in our subdivision with one!

We didn't get any of the rain.  Twice in the last couple of weeks I have driven home from work through torrential rain.  Barely able to see where I was going.  Many people using flashers on their cars to keep from getting in accidents.  When I got home, nary a drop at my house.  Without the rain it is hot and humid but dry in the soil.  I just bought a couple of soaker hoses for the corn and cowpeas I will be planting this weekend.  Next year, drip irrigation.

At 7 AM both temp and humidity were sitting at 80 so I guess it's be another hot muggy one.  I am giving our front door a hair cut(trimming the wisteria) in small steps.  Please yall be careful.
