I probably will, or something close to it, just because dogs are some of the coolest photo subjects. They're so often doing something interesting looking, and just look good themselves, that they're naturals for pics.

I'm also curious to see their transformations. I remember with other litters, two to three days was often enough to see notable transformations. I've already seen two in three days:

1. The puppies came out looking like slick little tubes. Everything looked made for getting through a birth canal quick and easy, Now their heads have already gotten a bit broader and more shapely, with their foreheads rising the way they do on some dogs. Not collies, for instance, which have a smooth line from forehead to nose, but on most other breeds. They look more like doggy heads now and not just rat heads.

2. Their legs looked like fish fins when born -- small, flat, very thin. as if they had no joints or bones. Now they're looking rounder and like real legs, and ones that can really do something. Not yet as long as they will be, but now they can really move and clamber over each other easily.

It's always amazing how quickly they develop. All they do is eat and sleep, though, so that's how all that growth gets done!

Feather may be the best doggy mother I've ever seen. She never wants to leave the puppy pen, though she has the run of the place and the other dogs are spending most of the day and night outside. When I let her out to pee, I stay with her. As soon as she's done she starts whining more and more frantically to get back inside, jumping up at the door, and she doesn't walk back to her puppies -- she sprints!

OMG! I had to show everyone in the office these photos...you'd think those dogs were mine! We all agree that they are the most beautiful dogs ever...well, with the exception of our office Golden, Ollie.

Don't we have an SFG pets thread somewhere so we can watch them grow up?

That would be a great idea, CC. It would keep the pet stuff organized instead of scattered, and keep pet stuff from taking over other threads.

Glad you and your people liked our new puppies, CC! I had good pictures of our dogs and a puppy last year, in the August PNW thread too. Familygardening starts it off on page 1 talking about Acelina, her chicken-tending dog, we talk about that, and I show folks our dogs herding and playing around after that.

Marc, first and foremost, beautiful mommy and babes! And the dad has a nice head, markings and conformation, he is a catch! I love the pic where Feather is looking you in the eye with her babes as you reach in for a little touch, she is connected for sure.

CUTENESS EMERGENCY!!!!!! Oh my gosh they are sooooooo cute! And you are right, most mammals are little tubes to be effectively borne out of the birth canal. People, not so much.

Holy cow, I'm a grampa!



Say, these guys have some interesting butts!



This is the one we refer to as "the Buddy" because he looks so much like his grampa.

Except for  those two spots on the back of his neck.







I kinda like 'em.  One spot on the top or back of the head isn't too uncommon in Australian shepherds, but I've never seen two before.

Too cute. The best dog I ever had (and I have had plenty) was an Aussie. I still miss her after 30 years and use her name as my main computer password.

Looking at Buddy sniffing the pups, something just dawned on me. The male of the lion pride accepts the cubs of one of his females, who gives birth in privacy and hides them for a while, because the cubs smell like mom, one of his pride. Buddy looks like a calm, dignified dog.

That's sweet. I still remember with huge love and fondness what may still be my favorite dog, who also died more than 30 years ago. They never really outwear their welcome in your heart, do they?

They do. I'm having to get up at least three times a night to let their mom out (constant diarrhea from eating all her puppies' poop) and feed her every few hours (having the runs plus nine puppies suckling on her makes huge demands on her body). I was very light-headed yesterday and am not too quick on my feet today either.
