Do you have a favorite fatherly quip to share?

Post  boffer on 6/21/2015, 11:11 am

In honor of Father's Day, is there a favorite quote you remember your dad saying?  Or, maybe still does?

When I was a kid, anytime I was using a shovel, my dad would always say, 'If you keep digging far enough, you'll end up in China!'

I don't know why I remember that,  but every time, he'd think it was funny, and I'd just roll my eyes.  I don't use a shovel much anymore, but when I do, I always think of him.

"Don't do anything half-a**ed.  Do it whole-a**ed and go all the way!"

Daddy became my stepfather shortly after my Swedish father died when I was 6 months old.  He called me Ginsberg (or Snooks) for the longest time, to the point that the matriarch Aunt of his family recorded my name as Ginsberg!

My dad would always say if you don't go to college you will end up a ditch digger.  But if you do end up a ditch digger, at least make the sides of the ditch nice and straight.

I can remember my dad claim to be "so hungry I could eat a scabby headed kid".

Another inspirational 'Bon Mot' from my dad: "I expect you to think like a 'budding' genius, not act like a 'blooming' idiot."
I try not to let the metaphor get lost with me as I age.
