Onions

Post  johnp on 8/2/2015, 6:33 pm

I picked all my onions this morning and put them on a screen for several weeks.
Evil or Very Mad I just tried to upload my latest pictures into my computer and it won't go, I just tried email and I can't get in and I tried opening word and it shuts me out. Taking my unit in tomorrow. Hopefully they can fix it because other than the drying onion picture I have the most incredibly large, just turning pink, Brandywine, the biggest and best I have ever grown. No cracks or anything. All my tomatoes are fabulous, they all look like the seed catalogues, have no idea why.

Well if you find out, spread the word! I hope it has something to do with something I can duplicate!

I picked the tomato in the above picture and it is one pound 5.8 oz. This is the first of the larger tomatoes and it is a beauty for me.

Thanks Marc, we will make a cucumber mint and yogurt sauce and slice it up and have it for dinner. I think we are having something else but who cares:bounce:

In Food and Recipes, with same photo. That way, it doesn't get buried in this topic.

Good advice, and nice onions! I have green bunching onion seeds, and if I have space I will put in some seed onions for bulbs.

Re: Onions

Post  trolleydriver on 6/30/2017, 7:20 pm

Some of my onions are bolting (producing flower stalks). My understanding is that this happens when the plant is under stress and gets into panic mode. It puts energy into reproducing by creating seeds rather than putting energy into the bulb. From what I have read bolted onions should be harvested and used because they do not store well. I'm wondering if the wet cool Spring and early Summer have caused them to stress.
