Friends with gifts

Post  Cajun Cappy on 9/2/2015, 10:05 am

my buddy Smokin' Sam stopped by yesturday afternoon with 8 little brussel sprout plants.  He had called from the nursery and told me they were in and looked good.  The gal at the nursery had given them to him as lagniappe and he didn't want 'em.  Peg and I had a 6ft space on one of our boxes not doing anything so we said sure.  He dropped them off and we spaced 8 plants out into 6 squares.  kinda spreading them evenly sorta.  I woulda took pictures like usual but we were in a hurry to get ém planted and watered before the skeeters woke up for their dusk feeding.  I am sure they will be appearing in the future though as they join the garlic smelling up our spring kitchen  Wink  Thing for us 3rd coasters to remember is we almost too south for brussels so ya gotta plant em in august for them to mature before the spring heat wilts them.  It still aint too late specially if we have a cool spring but it ya like the stinky lil fellas ya better get to planting

Cappy, they sure are stinky when they reach the end of their lives and start decomposing.

We tried a few plants last year but we planted them in the spring.  They grow so slowly that didn't work and they burned up in our heat before they bared sprouts.  Just cause they sell stuff at lowes dont mean we can plant it....... Anyways we researched and found out we can plant them in the fall that way they have all winter to grow before the heat gets them.  If at first ya dont suceed............... read the instructions Razz
