wrap up with some pictures

Post  landarch on 11/25/2015, 3:47 pm

Colder temps have finally slowed the garden down to a crawl this fall...still have garlic, spinach, lettuce, tatsoi , and a few carrots and beets growing patiently in the raised beds, but picked about the last of the green peppers and tomatoes.  Gathering ingredients for composting over winter (shredded leaves, kitchen scraps, coffee grounds, rabbit, cow, horse manures, lawn clippings, etc.).  I have some good helpers as well.

wire compost bin layered with fresh lawn clippings, shredded leaves, manures, coffee grounds, etc.

geobin getting full - it takes lots of water to hydrate fall leaves

shredded leaf piles - I invite neighbors to throw leaves here as well.

picked zinnias, green beans, and gorgeous peppers a few weeks ago.

I grew some great peppers this year...in both raised SFG beds as well as black plastic grow bags.  The recent ice storm was enough to take the plants down for the year.  I still have tatsoi and spinach going...may have to pick some for stir fry tonight.

My helpers love some things in the garden (green beans, sugar peas, carrots, beets, etc.) but I can't get them to eat tomatoes whatsoever.

A compost pile is a kid magnet...they have a blast seeing all the stuff go in, then getting to dig in the finished material.
