Mid-Atl - Dec 2015 - Seed Catalogs

Post  sfg4uKim on 11/29/2015, 2:20 pm

Have you received any seed catalogs yet? I have not. I've seen people posting that they're already gotten some.

Here's a question for y'all: Would you PAY for a seed catalog? Even if you don't get a discount for purchasing seeds?

Baker Creek Seeds has TWO versions of their catalog - one is free and the other costs $7.95.

I have my opinion, and I DO buy their Whole Seed Catalog every few years, but I wanted to see what everyone thought about this.

Would you PAY for a seed catalog? Why or why not? Have you ever bought the Baker Creek catalog? If so, do you feel it was worth it? Why or why not?

I'll be the first to answer. No. Their free catalog and online site are outstanding.

I agree that Baker Creek's free catalog is outstanding!  But I have found additional terrific info in the one you have to pay for.

Customer Service was kind enough to send me one for free since I push their seeds in my classes.

I have never paid for a catalog, nor would I, but didn't really know there were free and pay-for versions, either!

Look what arrived today!

I look at this as buying any other history/gardening book. It is 355 pages long with 29 dedicated solely to tomatoes.

It's also a way for me to support the important work (I also contribute to Seed Savers Exchange) of seed saving.

LOL I also ordered their FREE catalog. Last year one of my students walked off with my purchased catalog. SOOOOO from now on my students will only have access to the free one. Shocked

I typically order free catalogs from Baker Creek, Seed Saver Exchange, and Tomato Growers Supply...may try to get hold of Totally Tomato as well.  Some web sites are nicely up to date...others not so much in terms of the new catalogs.

Baker Creek has tweaked their layout...pics right next to written descriptions.

They are works of art, literally! I have been out of the game for a while, before Internet for sure. I get you, Kim, it does support worthy endeavors. I just didn't know anyone had to pay for a catalog!
