Fabulous photos and wonderful Tour, by the way. Thanks!
CC ... It's my first year with Scarlet Runners as well. They have only just started to produce beans and those beans are quite small. I think some people grow them just for the colour rather than the beans. I have no idea what the beans taste like and I'm not sure they will grow big enough for me to find out.

The first two years I did Scarlet Runner beans they were fabulous.  Long and tender.
The third year something got at them. One day every single beanstalk was chewed off at ground level and the stalks started about two inches above ground.
A complete loss. Sad

Mrs TD asked me to harvest one of the cabbages this morning.  I took the one that was growing in the ANSFG bed. She will be making a cabbage roll casserole.

Here it is before harvesting.

And after harvesting.

This portion weighed in at 8 pounds.

Today's haul includes Scarlet Runner Beans from the regular veggie garden.  They have really taken off in the last day or so. Also got some more Tomatillos (regular garden), Yellow Wax Beans (SFG), Purple Beans (SFG) and Cherry Toms (SFG). While working in the garden I have been eating Ground Cherries and Cherry Toms right off the plants. There are a tons of Tomatillos and green Tomatoes (Big Beef and Roma) still to be harvested. It looks like I will be canning again soon.

We are starting to clean up the gardens. So far, the Sunflowers and Acorn Squash plants have been removed from the regular veggie garden.

That's the name? I thought savoy was a type. Maybe there's only one variety of savoy?

Just got back from buying some garlic for planting as well as a bale of straw for mulching and composting. I got two types of garlic ... Red Russian and Music. Also got a new Lagostina Wok for stir frying (price was 70% off).

Savoy cabbage was featured on Master Chef last night. One of the finalists wrapped some meat in it.

The TT continues to do well.

The SFG beds are hanging in. Lots of things to harvest.  Some things are just about done such as the cucumbers on the short trellis.

Young lettuce plants continuing to grow nicely.

Young spinach plants.

Young Kale plants.

Radish planted not too long ago.

The following are not SFG.

This is the jungle near the compost bins. It includes Tomatillo, Ground Cherry, Roma Tomato and Big Beef Tomato plants.

Cosmos still looking nice.

This Sedum in flower near the pond is a sure sign that summer is over.

Nice, TD,  my leaves did not germinate with the exception of one cell of black seeded Simpson.    No spinach or any other leaves.  Radishes were up so need to check on them tomorrow!

Nice picture of your sedum.  I have only one plant, new to me this year, but sorry to hear it is a harbinger of winter as it is only recently come into bloom.

The bees are loving it when the temperature is right.

Thanks folks for your kind remarks.

I just did a pass through the SFG and found that my last cabbage has been ravaged by some hungry critter.

Re: Second Year SFG in Canada

Post  trolleydriver on 9/18/2016, 8:31 pm

Here I go again with today's batch of photos.  All photos are from the SFG unless stated otherwise.

Overview of the SFG in the far corner of the backyard.

Everbearing strawberries still trying to give it a go at the end of the summer.

One of the last two eggplants still to be harvested (the other one is very small).

Still green Roma tomatoes.

There's a ton of green Big Beef tomatoes,

Bunches of delicious Cherry toms.

A couple of Banana Peppers.

One of the very last Cucumbers. The vines need to be pulled out.

Jalapeno Peppers ... lots of striations = hot!!!

Raspeberries still producing (not SFG).

Some old Beets which I had forgotten about and which are probably no good now.

Swiss Chard is enjoying the late summer weather.

Leaks ... I probably should have mounded the MM around them to keep the stems white.

Beautiful Cayenne Peppers.

A lonely Sugar Snap Pea plant (sown in August) trying to climb a bamboo stick.

Nasturtium in the SFG Table Top.

Scarlet Runner Beans (not SFG).

Sedum near the pond.

The compost pile is heating up ... 52.4 Celsius (126.3 F).

Lovely, TD.  Keep them coming.  Somehow I have not mastered this photography stuff.
Whenever I get the camera out, I have to get the instruction book out as well to see how to turn it on/off, view pictures and/or delete.

I did once manage to post a picture of my house on this Forum.
