Date checking

Post  plantoid on 1/6/2016, 7:44 pm

I took Alison out to have a bit of retail therapy to day .. £1800 or so later we meet up with a sales lady in a Stonemasons yard

Picture Thelma Flintstone & Betty Rubble discussing the merits of which stone would look good as the hearth stone for one of the new fangled  no wood , no  coal or tar oil , smokeless  fires .
Three hours later , decision made , I'm a further £500 out of pocket , starving hungry , freezing cold & as thirsty as a camel .

So I take her to a fancy nosh shop that has a garden centre adjacent to it ....across the road .  Suitably restored with good food & a hot drink we ventured out into the  large garden centre.

I've never seen so many seeds etc.on a " Sale ticket ".  ( None could beat the prices I paid for the end of season seeds sale in early November ) .

As the shopping trolley was becoming fuller & fuller with Bonsai stuff, I decided to go for gold and buy a pack of 50 heat treated overwintering onion sets.
On getting home  I put my reading glasses on .. read all the directions & instructions for all our purchases .

Last thing to read was the onion pack ..... "Plant in early Autumn , these heat treated onion sets are resistant to bolting " .

So , If you hear me complaining about all my January planted onion sets bolting  around the end of May you'll realise that  Autumn planting sets are just that and don't like being planted three months late . Embarassed

lol!  Good job, Plantoid.

My husband routinely checks things I put in the cart to buy, because I usually forget to read the fine print as well.

Went shopping yet again this afternoon ..mainly for Munchkinn to get some artists pencils that give brown lines so she can line in some of her pencil sketches.

Guess what I saw in this  large store ?

YUP ! " Onion sets " .... in 17 different varieties of yellows, reds & whites .

This time I " Just happened to have my reading glasses with me " Wink .
I got 150 yellow , in date for this year " Sturton "  onion sets.

I'm immensely hurt in my emotional wallet  , for  they were cheaper than the Sale ones that were out of date at only £2.45 for the 150  . ( $ 3.00  USD ) as against something like £ 4.49 ( $ 6.20 USD ) for the out of date ones.

Planting / setting them  starts in February 2016 Very Happy
