Why use 50 people when 2 will do it?

At least the tops are going back into the soil to be tilled in...

Very interesting to watch!

sanderson ... that just about sums it up for me. However, I am pleased to report that I am no longer frozen to the ground. In fact it is 22 Celsius (71 F) here in Ottawa, Ontario today. The sun feels so good.

By the way, CHEZ 106 is Ottawa's Rock Station http://www.chez106.com .

Wicked funny, Sanderson! Made me decide to stop cursing the wind and cold here on the Cape and be grateful that I don't live in Ontario anymore.

Yup, I was born in St. Catharine's.  Fortunately my dad moved us to FL when I was  small so I have no memory of having lived there.  I have lots of bundled up photos though and I'm still Canadian (which may come in handy this election year Wink ). All of my relatives live in Canada with the majority in Ontario.  I used to visit them a lot during the summers.

I should probably have PM'd this.  Oh well...

CC that's amazing!  My family moved to St.Catharines when I was 10 years old. I got married there and eventually Mrs TD and I moved to Nova Scotia. Five years later we were back in St.Catharines for about a 7 year period after which we moved to Ottawa. My mum still lives in the North End of St.Catharines.

Re: Senseless Banter...

Post  plantoid on 4/20/2016, 5:27 pm

Dear God stop making me sick sick
Turn my wife into a me- can- ick
I just can't handle it any more ,
She's gone'n  wrecked our garage door
Oh for the warmer days of summer ,
Than putting the door back on its runner .

Yep ! Either Alison or HollyRobyn decided to show their ignorance of simple mechanics and played KING KONG with the garage door ,  forcing out the up & over door's roller bearing terminated guide peg  from their guide channels . That's no mean feat.... I can tell you .   No one said anything till entry to the garage couldn't be put off any longer .

Then today at 10.15 hrs. or so I get , " Can you sort the garage door out . I can't open it & I want to get something out the freezer .
Embarassed   I couldn't open it either . Laughing

It took a while to find something to ease the door open enough for me to lay down and crawl under it on my tummy into the garage to see what was stopping it opening.
Both of the spring assisted door lifting cables had some how become snarled up round their guide cones  , the only way I know how that happens is if something over five feet tall is jammed under the top edge of an opening door .

I guess it must have been that old ,  "  Mister No Body " yet again ... I  do wish he'd bugger off & live somewhere else  .
So two hours later , having to learn new ways to do what used to be a six or so minute job for me , I got the door back on the lifting cables and the rollers on the pegs either side of the door back into their guide channels with a lot of help from Alison .
Then the fun of re-tensioning the lifting cable spring started. I had to take a couple of hours out to recuperate before I finally managed to get the tension right .
Total time taken  ..... just over three hour all together Sad .

After it was all back & working smoothly I started to look for reasons of why it had come out the channel . I couldn't find any , though I did notice that it won't be long before I have to do it all again as one of the roller bearings on a side peg  has a wear related crack in it. Cost about $60 USD ( £40 )  if I buy them as the manufacturers branded set of two  or £ 3.50 (  $ 5 USD )  for a pair of bearings and me making the new pegs on my metal work lathe .

 Hmmmm,
Let me see, " Barn Doors " across a small garage that's 9 foot wide  by 18 foot long internally , reckon I'd get away with just fitting that barn door's lock . Laughing

I did think of putting in a pair of hung doors on it when we came here 10 years ago but there is not enough clear swept area at theh front for the doors to swing open  on the outside to get a pair fully opened .

The garage is that small we've never been able to get a medium sized family car in it nor is there enough room to  swing the proverbial cat .  So to maximise the outside yard working space we have sited the trash can locker  on a five inch thick concrete plinth four feet from the up & over door.

They are quite a good door .. this one's coming up to its 29 birthday , save for the derailing propensity after female assaults it will be good for another 29  .
