Old and New

Post  trolleydriver on 4/23/2016, 11:00 am

First the OLD

When I was a little boy in England one of my favourite toy and TV characters was a little puppet named "Sooty". Maybe Kelejan remembers Sooty.  This would be about 60+ years ago. One of my toys was a Sooty Junior Xylophone. I still have that toy as shown in the photos below. Some of the classic TV shows (black and white) are in the Youtube link. When they visit us, my young grandchildren love to play with the xylohone so it is on its third generation of children.

Youtube ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ozl1wT7BwfA

Now for the NEW

My daughter and her family (hubby plus 3 children) are visiting us this weekend. They own Hitman Hotrods in Cambridge, Ontario. While they are here they have a display at the Ottawa Classic and Custom Car show. They tow the huge trailer shown in the photo.

Speaking of England...just saw this...

Not quite SFG, but still rather novel and unique

1.  Sooty is charming!  I never knew of this program and I'm sure my daughter would have loved watching it at a younger age.

2.  Hitman Hotrods sounds like a really cool business to own.

3.  Ralitaco, I enjoyed the video about tunnel gardens.  What a great use of "dead space."

Re: Senseless Banter...

Post  trolleydriver on 6/2/2016, 4:15 pm

A "friend" sent me the following:

For those of my generation who do not and cannot comprehend why Facebook exists: I am trying to make friends outside of Facebook while applying the same principles

Therefore, every day I walk down the street and tell passersby what I have eaten, how I feel at the moment, what I have done the night before, what I will do later, and with whom. I give them pictures of my family, my dog, and of me gardening, taking things apart in the garage, watering the lawn, standing in front of landmarks, driving around town, having lunch, and doing what anybody and everybody does every day.

I also listen to their conversations, give them the "thumbs up" and tell them I like them. And it works just like Facebook. I already have four people following me: two police officers, a private investigator, and a psychiatrist.

Re: Senseless Banter...

darn funny As a non-FB introvert I appreciated this.
As someone who had just dealt with a wasp nest, I really appreciated a good laugh.
I went to move the A-frame trellis on the porch, heard a buzzing very close and backed off fast. Ping-pong ball sized yellow jacket wasp nest at the top of the trellis (which looks tennis ball sized when you're too close.) affraid
Went inside, put on double jeans, boots, winter coat, thick gloves (w/rubberbands at the sleeves), and a mesh mosquito hat (over my coat hood). Shoved the nest off the wood into a clear plastic container in a bag, and tied a knot in the bag, and then put the screw lid on the container. Looks like I got it in time and it's just the queen. I'm afraid there's another nest somewhere nearby because I've seen another yellow jacket eating the deck. hiding

You're right, I must have looked rather lost!  santa I was definitely overheating quickly. I think the across neighbors were out, and the side neighbors don't have a good line of sight. So only a few people driving past saw me, if they were even paying attention. No uniformed personnel have been by so I think I'm safe... for now...

I woke up this morning and actually remembered my dream quite clearly.

I was harvesting my garlic, and every one was the size of a tennis ball, and the strawberries were the size of a golf ball.

Perhaps I am a perfectionist?

Hi Kelejan! Thanks for the concern... they didn't come take me away. They might still consider it since I've been gardening in the heat in a black long sleeve sweatshirt for sun protection...

I've been posting here and there in various (sensible Wink) threads... but I don't manage to post consistently, and my allergies have been taking their annual toll. I think it was last Sunday that I took my first antihistamine and ended up having to sleep most of the day. I'd eat a meal, get about 45 minutes of work done and just have to give up and nap for a few hours. I probably ought to photograph the grasses at the back of the property that I suspect are the main culprits so that I can get them identified... but I'm a little scared to get that close to them hiding ...all that pollen...

Think Spring!

Post  countrynaturals on 8/21/2016, 11:56 am

I know it's off-season, but I'll forget if I wait that long. Rolling Eyes A picture of this sign was posted behind the cash register at my favorite nursery.

"Spring is here! I'm so excited I almost wet my plants!"
