I have read that folks in cities have so much ambient light that they cannot see the stars.  Also, those with high buildings don't even see sunsets and sunrises.  What a shame.

Completely true. This may be very hard to believe, but I missed dark starry nights enormously when I lived in Los Angeles for a couple decades, because they were almost impossible to see. The light pollution made the stars invisible. As far as you knew there was no point staring up at the stars and letting all your dreams out like a breath held too long because there were no stars to see and in that half-lit smothering sky you might as well keep your dreams to yourself.

You could live year after year with virtually no input from nature. No rain, no stars in the sky. Just ... in stasis. The outside reflects the inside. Change is healthy and good. You can be frozen in time in Los Angeles for your entire life.

Well put Marc.  Those of us who can still see the stars must thank our "lucky stars."

Yesterday was rainy. Today is sunny and crisp. I know i complain about the heat in the summer, but having different seasons is really good.

Yes. Thanks. I started watching and then realized I needed more time to view it. I'll get back to it soon.

Re: Senseless Banter...

Post  plantoid on 11/16/2015, 4:04 pm

i love living here, now if only the local authorities would turn off the street lights after 23.00 and keep them off till 06.45  it would be even better..

I mean no one drives a car without lights these days and as we are rural not many folk venture out after 22.00 hrs

Last year we had  12 hrs of darkness due to a major power failure .. Te stars  were sufficiently visible  to give enough light to walk about outside without having to worry about tripping up .

The meteor showers have been great viewing . This last few years I've taken Munchkin out at 01.00 hrs to the edge of the Black Mountains ,  parked up in a hollow ( Dry  Ex Quarry ) with the car run up a five foot earth bank and turned off the lights .
After putting a thick blanket over the dashboard to hide any light , we then sat there with all windows open , heater on full blast & CD playing the Planets suite by Gustaff Holtz .....rather loud , whilst  wrapped in our own blankets watching the meteors coming in by the dozen as we drank mugs of flask made drinking chocolate.

She still got up at 0630 the next morning .......bright as a button too.

hiddenID heh heh

Since it had nothing to do with gardening, I put it in Senseless Banter, which is appropriate for unusual subjects.

I had a heartwarming happening this morning.

Caught the bus to return home, and at the next stop a neighbour I knew chatted to me. She then notice a little black wallet on the seat beside me and that was when I realized I had not put it, containing bus pass, Care Card and MasterCard, properly back into my top pocket and it  had slipped out on to the seat and I doubt if I would have noticed.  I think that is one of the results of not taking off one's gloves.

It certainly saved me a lot of anxiety the next time I went to look for it.   pale

I am the sort of person who is always mislaying stuff. e.g. I sorted out my sock trove for some extra thick ones and found I have seven unmatched socks.

As I was in a hurry yesterday and had to walk in my boots that are a little too large, I looked for a matched pair and had to do with the nearest lookalikes.  No one could see them so that was OK.  I only hoped that I did not  have an accident and was carted off to  hospital. Shades of my mom telling me to dress properly just in case. Very Happy

I even wear unmatched earrings. As long as both colors are in the outfit, of course.

Has any body ever remarked on it? I think most of the time we see what we expect to see.  A bit like the wallpaper that is not quite matched up but you see it for evermore.

Nope, no one ever notices. Not even if one is a dangle and one is a stud. Or if they do, maybe they think I'm just a crazy ol' lady and they are too polite to point out the 'mistake'. I doubt that though because my bff's once told me I looked like I had a skunk on my head when I wore a lovely (I thought) black and white fur hat one winter.

Wink
I remarked about a similar sort of skunk's stripe to my ex wife and managed to duck as the pressure cooker lid passed over my head and exited the kitchen via the window .

Her hair appointment  was two days in the future  , the ill temperament lasted several years more . Laughing
