Hello from Cumming, GA!

Post  Wagz2003 on 2/14/2016, 3:36 am

I'm originally from South Dakota, and actually have tons of farmers in my family.  But, it wasn't until I moved down to the beautiful state of GA that I was able to actually start getting a green thumb.  I've been gardening for about three years now, and am new to square foot gardening, so any tips are welcome!  I'm super excited to get planning on this year's garden- I'd like to get most of our produce from our back yard, rather than the grocery store.  I also got a canning pot with accessories, so I can make soups, and can veggies.  Hello! Smile

Welcome, Wagz, from Ohio! Glad you are going to give SFGing a try, I predict you will never go back to large scale row gardening again! Have you read Mel's book, All New SFG, 2nd Edition? That is the best place to start in my opinion, as a basis for your beds and planning.

The archives on this site are very helpful, as well, and are a treasure trove of useful information. Keep notes of what works and what doesn't for next year, you will learn so much!

Post often, and we love pictures! glad you\'re here

Welcome from Newnan, GA. If you have questions there is two great ways to use the forum: the first one is search through old conversation. There is so much information here in back threads. The second and easiest ways is to ask questions. We like to help each other out and just love pictures. Good luck with your garden this summer.

Hello Wagz! Welcome from Buford!!!! Glad to have another SFG'r close-by. You're only about 20 miles from me. Woo-Hoo!!!!

I'm AtlantaMarie, your Regional Host.

So I'm assuming that your canning pot is a pressure canner since you're wanting to do veggies & soups...? Good. We had QUITE a discussion this past summer/fall about pressure canning. Several members finally got up the courage to try it. And those who tried it seemed to love it.

There's lots of info in the archives and we're always here to answer questions/help you out!

To see what's plantable/seedable now, go to the Mid-South tab from the home page. We put out a monthly planting reminder. Of course, with the storm coming in today/tomorrow....

Welcome again, Neighbor!

Welcome from Fayetteville, GA... about 20 miles or so south of Atlanta.  As you can see, you have quite a few neighbors in the Georgia area!  I began SFG in the spring of 2013, so I am now beginning my fourth season.  I've very much enjoyed the time I've spent here and I've learned a lot.  I wish you much gardening success!

Hello from Fredricksburg VA, where we had 6" of snow yesterday at about 25 degrees, rain this morning, and 50 degrees with sunshine this afternoon.
I'm exhausted, someone please let me off the weather wheel.

Oh, good people here.  They'll set you straight.  Just ignore the rantings from that Zekemo guy, "he's a looney" and "talks" way too much.
