New Pepper Bed and Bees

Post  NAR56 on 2/22/2016, 1:27 pm

Hello All, I just want to post a few pictures of the new garden bed. It is going to be mainly for Peppers (Bells, Banana, and Jalapeno). It is 2 X 8 with Cedar fence boards on the bottom. Why the Cedar boards? Well, I do not have to Trim around the box when I cut grass, I can just use the lawnmower. It also stops weeds from growing up under the side boards and into my garden. In the past I have bad a case of Dollar weed and this method works well to stop it. Lastly, it is easy to mix the MM in the bed itself as it has a hard wooden bottom. There is a small space between the cedar fence boards to let water out but not the MM.

I try to give back to nature and let a few plants go to flower for the Bees. While I was making this bed I saw 2 Bees on a Broccoli plant that I let go to flower. I do this in hopes that they will come back during the Summer. Last few years I see this type of Bee more in the Winter than in the Summer.

Enjoy the Pictures,
 Ryan

Nice bed and skirting! Broccoli flowers are so sweet to snack on but I had to share with the bees!

I like that skirted box very much! Did you have to cut the fencing or did it come that size?

CC, It is a 6 foot Cedar fence board that I cut in half. It makes mowing the lawn so much easier since I do not have to trim around every box. It keeps the weeds out very well and there is no weed barrier material to deal with or replace.

Thanks,
 Ryan

What a great idea, NAR56! Wish I had thought of it before we set everything up...

Jimmy, Step away from the hammer and saw . . . . You have enough beds! As if there is such a thing.
