introducing myself

Post  janerye07 on 3/21/2016, 1:02 pm

Hi,
I am glad to have joined this forum and grew up with my grandparents who gardened every kind of food in NJ. Now I am in NW FL and things are so different.  I love flowers and just as importantly, want to grow my own food.  My father was a tree surgeon in NJ and so trees are especially a love for me too. No matter how long I have tried to grow my own food I am not satisfied with the results.  I hope to keep learning from this forum.

Welcome to the forum, everyone here is very willing to help, but with your experience, I am thinking you will be offering up some expertise our way too!!

Also, where in NJ were you? I was born in Bayonne, and grew up in Toms River.

Welcome , hope you have a great time here on site and also in adapting to our version of square foot gardening.

It is quite different from the mother earth row gardens of the past .

If you don't have Mel's book on it all  the details are to be  found in my strap lines, it's well worth getting it if you can afford it as this means you'll be singing off the same song  sheet at the rest of us so to speak .

You could do a lot worse than going to the home page and reading about making compost at home for the quality of the com post used in Mel's Mix is the secret of getting a quality garden set up going .

When I first joined it took me several days of reading all the posts to get a better appreciation of what the All New Square Foot Garden ( ANSFG ) is all about .

One thing for sure is I'll never ever go back to playing in the soil ever again as our ANSFG is far superior .

Janerye,  Welcome to the Forum from California!  glad you\'re here  Ditto on reading the book All New Square Foot Gardening.  Florida has a different planting schedule than, say, Ohio or Maine.  Take a look at the topics in your Coastal and Tropical South Region. We are here to help! Very Happy

glad you\'re here from Ohio, Jane! So glad you found us! Can't wait to hear about your journey in SFG, the book is IMO a must. Keep lots of notes, I constantly refer to mine, and I only have one year under my belt with the new method.

And take pics, we love 'em, and they help us to see what you are up to.

Hi Janerye7. Welcome from Atlanta, GA! Glad you've joined us.

Lived in Spotswood, NJ till I was 3... I bet that FL IS a bit different, lol. But you've got huge advantages - you can plant pretty much year-round!
