Greetings from the Research Triangle Park

Post  siskosdad on 4/27/2016, 9:07 pm

Greetings, all ... I live in the area of North Carolina known as the Research Triangle Park and have been gardening for many, many years.  My daughter and I have decided to move from "regular" gardening to SFG.  The area in which I live is Zone 7/8 depending on the way the wind is blowing (or so it seems).

I started way too many seedlings in February and am now waiting until May 8 to transplant to take advantage of planting by the phases of the moon.  I know that may sound crazy but I believe it is worth at least a try.

Good to find this group.  I'll be looking for info and asking for answers.  In the meanwhile, I have 24 tomato plants that need watering.

Siskosdad, Welcome to the Forum from California! glad you\'re here SFG is actually fun once the beds are set up and the Mel's Mix made. Less water, less weeding, no fertilizer, less room, closer spacing for more production, . . .

SiskosDad, Welcome to the forum from Coastal NC!!!!

You are definitely in the right place to learn about SFG. Take advantage of the "Search" feature, there have been so many good questions and good answers given.

Also, many folks here believe that the blended compost is the key in your MM. I know when I search for compost on CraigsList Wilmington, I always see results up in the RTP area for aged manure. Here's an example for FREE Aged horse manure

Keep us posted and post pics!

Welcome Siskosdad.  I am also from the Atlanta area (but pretty much the same zone as you). This site is pretty amazing.  It's a great place to exchange information.  I'm beginning my fourth year of SFG and I enjoy it tremendously.

I know you will enjoy your time here.  Again, welcome and I wish you much success in your gardening endeavors!

glad you\'re here Siskosdad! Glad you are coming over from the dark side! You will never look back, no kidding. Have you read Mel Bartholomew's book, All New Square Foot Gardening? It is THE resource for this method of intensive gardening, and can save you a ton of work!

Anyways, post often, find your region and post there too!
