Table top garden question

Post  1chichi on 5/11/2010, 8:37 am

I am making a table top square foot garden.
It's a little less than 4' x 4'.
Most of the materials are recycled & are made from a display pallet that has a frame built on it.
All I need to add is the sides and the plywood bottom that will hold the soil..
I have scrap pieces of PLYWOOD lying around that I want to piece together to make the bottom. I'm not sure if the plywood is treated or not, that's why I thought of painting it.
Should I paint the plywood?
Or should I just leave it bare, & line the bottom w/ some black mulch plastic?
Or should I paint plywood AND use the black plastic mulch?

Painting may help the plywood last longer; be sure to get the edges good too. Plastic would help eliminate potential leeching problems from any chemicals in the wood. No one has ever mentioned whether the adhesive used in plywood could be a problem.

Thanks Boffer, I'll paint it and line it too.
