Hello from New Brunswick, Canada

Post  Christiecracker on 5/7/2016, 4:47 pm

Hi everyone. Just found you! I Don't SFG  but garden "out of the box" I didn't realize that this forum was all about raised bed gardening.  But there is so much information on this wonderful site so I hope that is okay that I don't SFG.
It is still very cool here. A chilly 46 Fahrenheit today. I usually don't get any planting done until the second week of June.  By then the soil is really warm and everything makes up for lost time! I have a small greenhouse and so I start my own tomatoes, peppers and winter squash.   Actually I try and start as many veggies as I can because of our late growing season. Been looking around the forum some and I will be asking and answering questions soon! Very Happy

Christie,  Welcome to the Forum from California!  glad you\'re here  While most of us use the SFG method, a few have row gardens or a combination of both.  There is a wealth of general gardening info on this site, just check out the Search box!! Very Happy  It's so good to see more Canadians recently joining.  Your Regional Host, Kelejan, should be along soon to welcome you.

Hi Christie. Welcome from Ottawa. The people on this forum are terrific. They are always willing to answer questions and provide advice. And we will soon win you over to SFG.  Smile

I started my first SFG beds last year and added two more this past week. I also have a regular soil veggie garden. BTW I have a brother-in-law and his wife who live in Shediac, NB.  Back in the 1970s we lived in Nova Scotia and I can remember the late start to the growing season when we were there.

Hi Christie. Welcome from Atlanta, GA!

I started as a row gardener. Now I'm all SFG & container. It's just SO much easier!

If you haven't read All New SFG, 2nd Edition, I would encourage you to do so. You should be able to find it at your local library...

Please ask lots of questions. We're always here to help!

Hi, Christie! Looking forward to hearing about your gardening exploits! Forgive us as we try to convert you to SFGing....because it's better. It is.

I have done straight up row gardening, and a combo, it is all good.

Tell us more about your plans, pictures are great! glad you\'re here

Welcome, Christie.  glad you\'re here I'm new here, too. I'm just getting back into gardening after many years. I'm in Northern California where I couldn't garden for the past 4 years, due to the drought. Now I'm making up for lost time. My method is waist-high beds filled with dirt, but I use the sfg method where applicable. I look forward to your posts, questions, and answers. Posting pics is a bit of a challenge at first, but easy once you get the hang of it. There's a nice how-to post for it when you're ready.  happy hi

glad you\'re here  christiecracker happy hi
from Kelejan :canada: your Canadian Regional host.

When you have finished telling us about yourself and what you intend to do,  come on over to take part in our Canadian thread.

You can read anything you want on this forum, as there are many specific subjects to chat about and ask questions.  Many people like to continue with their Welcome thread as it kind of acts like a diary to chart your progress, but also drop into to other threads.  So much to read about as we have a wonderful SEARCH box in the top left-hand corner of this page.  Just enter your words and press Go and dozens of threads will come up.

I live in the Southern Interior of British Columbia, where we are having warm and dry weather. Look forward to your postings.

welcome from Nova Scotia.

Yup, you have the same issue that we do.  Late starts to the season.  I tried extending the season this year, with very limited success, but think I can improve upon it next year.  You really can do the same if you have a greenhouse.  I was just trying to convert my bed to a mini greenhouse.

We spent a week touring the Maritimes last year, and I feel a big hole in my soul not being able to go again this year. It was by far the best vacation we've had, so relaxing.

Welcome!
