I have used cinnamon.  It seemed to work for me.  after two applications the ants moved elsewhere.  I have no idea what species of ants they are.  Small black ants that bite and leave a pimple size welt.

I have tiny black ants that can squeeze into my butterfly house. I planned on using cinnamon to keep them out. I think I'll go ahead and try it.
