Advice on 6 mil greenhouse

Post  Maya Papaya on 5/11/2010, 2:15 pm

Hi folks, over the weekend I built my hoop houses with 6 mil plastic and pvc - pretty easy. We got some late rain here in northern cali and it was pretty nasty for my little babies. They had to brave the first night, but the second night I got the hoop houses covered and they were all snug.

However, today is a sunny day here and I'm a little unsure as to when I should be using my greenhouse. I took it down this morning because even though it is 57 degrees right now, it is 84 degrees in the greenhouse already and I'm thinking they need the natural sunlight after it has been cloudy for the past 3 days. Although my tomato and zucchini plants may love it, my strawberries, lettuce and other greens may not.

When should I be using the plastic covered hoop house? This is my first ever garden.

Thanks,

Maya Papaya

Excellent question. I've always wondered this as well. Knowing when the plastic is a boost instead of a detriment is hard for those who haven't used the greenhouse before.
