Grasshoppers

Post  johnp on 6/21/2016, 8:48 am

We are infested with grasshoppers to the extent I have never seen. I have put out over 100$ in NOLO bait and it has done very little or nothing. We picked most of the kale before it got eaten but the chard is already gone. The raspberry bushes leaves are like a skeletons and the rhubarb leaves are the same way. They have a spray of something that will kill them but I don't want to kill the ladybugs. Any ideas ?

I feel your pain with the grasshoppers.  I have them, but not as bad as you have them.  The fly swatter works on the tender young.  The butterfly net is out at the ready.  Cat helps when she's lucky.  It's probably 1 for me : 4 for the grasshoppers.  Best of luck because I'm sure not having much luck.

The bad thing about a spread bait is that they have to eat it. Mine seem to fly/hop from plant to plant. I never see them on the ground.

John, How fares the garden vs. grasshoppers? I gave up on the fly swatter and am having good success with the scissors. I know, not pretty. But, my score is nearly 1:1 now.
