Well, it made my laugh as well, TD. C.N.  and Beetles.  I expect I was thinking of all that water that has fallen these past weeks.

Tonight and tomorrow we have a forecast of showers or wet flurries.  The kind of weather I really dislike.

Followed by three days of rain, then flurries or rain following.

On my computer I have a programme called F-lux.  At sunset it reduced the lighting on the computer screen so that when you go to bed your brain is relaxed so you fall asleep sooner.

Today it came on at 3:58pm local time.  I overode it as I was not ready to go to bed. it.  Very Happy

On this day of November 20 in the following years.

Greatest precipitation           (1966-2015)     33.8 mm 1998Greatest rainfall                   (1966-2015)     29.0 mm 1998Greatest snowfall                 (1966-2015)     12.7 cm  1973Most snow on the ground       (1966-2015)     28.0 cm  1996
This has been the weather records since I have lived here in The Southern Interior of British Columbia, three out of those four years.

November 1st 1996 was the day/year we moved into our current home and we had to buy a snow shovel to get to the front door as the tenants had left two weeks before and we did not have access to the house. In addition the little aluminum shed was being crushed under icy snow and was a write-off.

We have brutal weather conditions in Ottawa today and it will carry over through Monday. We are under a Severe Snowfall Warning issued by Environment Canada with snow accumulation expected to be up to 25cm (about 10 inches). Adding to the misery is the wind which is currently 37 km/hr gusting to 49 km/hr and we are expecting gust up to 70 km/hr.  Temperature is currently -2C (29F) and with the wind it feels like -9C (15F). Me no like this.

Perfect gardening weather, TD. Very Happy  At least it makes your garden look pretty and think of all the microbes nicely tucked up in your new compost box.  All is not lost.

Not much doing today.  I keep waiting for the snow that is forecast but I think Ottawa got it all.

Here we seem to be between systems and missing everything today.  It was pleasant walking this morning, did not need a heavy coat or gloves. No doubt it will change soon enough.

How is everyone else in BC.  Seems like TD is doing the most work  here on the Canadian thread as well as holding his own on  his special thread. Thank you for all your inout, TD.

It's a real joy for me to share my gardening, etc. experiences on this wonderful forum. I sometimes think that I am posting too often and with too many photos and therefore I may be boring people. So it's nice to find that the effort is appreciated.  Very Happy

I agree with you, Marie.  Now, if others would contribute as much as TD I'd never get anything done.  rofl

Kudos also to has55, I have so much to catch up on with all his input, but perhaps I will be able to if the weather turns really nasty this winter.

Well it's time for me to put on some winter clothing and brave the elements as I go out to do the compost temperature readings. Also have some kitchen scraps for the plastic compost bin.

Post  Kelejan on 11/24/2016, 10:05 pm

Well, I did nothing in the garden today.  First of all, it rained; heavily; all day.

Second; Telus finally came and connected the fibre optic connections they had installed a  month ago, saying that they would be be back shortly to finish it.  they turned up today, an hour late, then took about three hours x three experts.  As my little home is rather stuffed, I had to move furniture etc  around so that they could get to things.

I think of my little  house as a Rubik's Cube, something has to cleared out of the way so that something else can be put in its place.  I really must get on with some serious de-cluttering.  The trouble is that most of my things have a good memory attached to them. Very Happy

The best thing is that I can now read all the small print on the screen.  I had got rid of my old analog TV finally, and they installed and connected this new digital one.
Now I have to find out how the remote works and I have to keep reading the instruction book.  I had the other one too many years and it is a big leap for me as things have changed so much.

Don't feel too bad, Kelejan. My mom still has a tv with "rabbit ears," lol! She had a repair guy in for something a few weeks ago who wanted a closeup picture of it. He thought he'd never see one in person. (Young whippersnapper!)

Good luck with that new fandangled thing, KJ! I'm still trying to figure mine out and I've had it for 2 or 3 years already. Every once in awhile when someone comes over to watch a movie they'll show me something new. But I still don't know how to change the color.  Trump is orange with green hair. Thank goodness I still have an analog TV in the bedroom for when else fails

I actually recorded a program yesterday evening, intending to watch it straight after.

The instruction reads; "Watch your recordings".  Press pvr to watch your recorded programs.

Well, I did just that,  pressed pvr, but the picture that came up did not say where to go or what to do after that.. Nothing on the screen to tell me anything really, only that I had recorded that particular program. I know I can call the installer, I may have to show him my ignorance.  I know it is going to so obvious once you know how.

In addition, the programs I always thought them as numbers.  Now I have complete new numbers and yesterday I was getting really tired.  Ready to have another go today after I have visited the Seniors' Centre for Friday morning coffee.  I am sure many of them have already sorted it out.  I only need a few simple instructions:
one instruction at a time.  There is TV in the lounge and I have seen people go up to it an pick the program they want.  I will take my remote with me plus the instruction cards.

No rain so far today, I may be able to get out and clear up a little more before winter.  Snow forecast in a few days so that will be the end of outdoor activities.

It's pretty embarrassing when a 5 year old inserts a flash drive, picks up your remote and watches his favorite cartoon movie. Embarassed I can't even record a program to save my life.

What you have to remember, sanderson, is that our heads are filled with so much information it is hard to get anything else in.

On the other hand, a five-year old's head has much more room to absorb new knowledge.

I managed to record a show I like, and figured out how to view it, then delete, also how to fast forward and pause.  I am making progress.

I have almost got my list of old channel numbers matched up with the new ones.
The only one I have not matched up is PBS and I have a feeling that it is not the one that we get from Spokane in Washington State, that caters for a lot of British Columbia and Albert in Canada. Possibly the one from Seattle.

A few years ago our cable company, Shaw, decided to switch from the Spokane PBS to Detroit which had a completely different program.  So many of us threatened to cut off from Shaw Cable that they relented and brought back the Spokane channel.

Our cable company tried to do the same thing.  All of our USA main networks now come from Detroit.  Our PBS station is in Watertown, NY. and the cable company wanted to use the one either in Detroit or Buffalo (can't remember).  The PBS station in Watertown caters very nicely to eastern Ontario and in particular Ottawa.  They show some Canadian content, they promote special events in Ottawa, some Ottawa businesses sponsor shows on that station and a lot of people in this area support the station financially. The station often shows a photo/video of the flags of both countries together and so on. So it did not go well when the cable company tried to take the station away from us. They had to keep the Watertown PBS station.

Look at this from the WPBS home page.  It says "Serving Northern New York and Eastern Ontario, Canada and both flags are shown together. Love it.

Yes, and on our Spokane PBS they say "Serving Spokane, and Edmonton/Calgary.

I have not yet located PBS on this new, to me, Telus network, but I get the feeling everything is orientated to Seattle.

I am getting used to it though.  I have recorded the F1 motor racing for tomorrow so that I do not have to get up at 4am to watch it.  I always sleep badly when I want to watch something the other side of the pond so I am inclined to overslept. Very Happy

What's the betting that I will sleep well and wake up in good time to see it live.  On the other hand, I can roll over and go to sleep knowing that I can watch the recording without knowing the result, and fast forward all the advertising so that the result is that I have more time do not do anything.

This is the last F1 race this season, Sad  but there is always next year and as I love wtcthing the Tour de France that lasts about three weeks, I am going to save a lovely lot of time next year that I can spend in the garden. Very Happy
