Winter's Coming!

Post  countrynaturals on 12/1/2016, 3:22 pm

For the first time this year, I noticed snow on our neighboring mountain tops. I guess winter is on its way. geek

Did everyone see NOAA's "guidance" post today?

https://wattsupwiththat.com/2016/12/01/noaa-forecasts-major-december-cold-blast-for-nearly-all-the-usa/

Of course, the degree of cold will vary from place to place, and over time.  Please prepare.

This weekend gone , on Sunday morning we went to near Hereford UK see my 76 year old rather ill brother .

There was snow on most of the Brecon Beacons & an arctic wind tearing across the tops blowing waves of snow powder off the leeward edges.  Lovely sight from within a nice warm car , but honestly , not one you ever ought to be out in , that sort of weather is deadly in the extreme .  No wonder the SAS  do some of their training there  .

In the shade it was barely minus 2 centigrade   .  Sunday night we got slapped with minus 9 centigrade ... nine miles away about 300 mtrs above sea level on the edge of the Brecons  it dropped to minus 11 & has stayed below freezing since .....  till yesterday .

Yesterday a slight thaw set in .. we found someone had installed an outside water point , forgot to insulate the pipe work  or write it down in the frost precautions ledger for the building for it to be turned off & drained down ..

About 15.00 yesterday the thaw showed that the copper piping to the outlet has split some 3 inches along its length .. water gushing  out over the car park in a lovely rainbow making spray till someone found the stop tap & turned it off from inside the building .
