The first lesson is to close the hwy to incoming traffic and open the incoming lanes to the evacuees to get out of town. We couldn't believe it watching the bottlenecks on one side and the empty lanes on the other. Evil or Very Mad

Yea, this is Bad.

The weather forecast is sun until Wednesday with rain starting Wednesday and then going for the next 7 days after that.  That end the 10 day forecast.

The Oroville Dam is already 100% capacity.  Basically, everything downstream is about to get whatever flood mother nature wants to give them in the wettest month of an extremely wet year, coupled with a chance of a 30 foot high emergency spillway dam failure releasing a 30 foot high wall of water to drop 700 ft to the feather river and roar down stream.

Of course, no worries about the 770 foot Oroville dam...

All I can say is I hope the bedrock anchoring the spillway and the end of the main dam towards it is sound and free of fissures and cracks that will be exploited by the water.

Otherwise, we have 3+ million acre feet of water sitting 700 feet up that is coming for the Sacramento delta.
Lake Oroville made the national news 2 years ago for a slightly different reason. Rolling Eyes

Razz It's feast or famine! None of the excess water will go to the Central Valley. Razz Your excess goes to SoCal and mine is drained to the ocean. Evil or Very Mad

I live along side the Columbia River in Canada,  and some years ago I read a book (fictional but based on fact) on what would happen if the Revelstoke Dam failed.

It did not make for comfortable reading. Our small town was given one line.
"Castlegar was wiped off the map".  I do know that the Revelstoke Dam is not as high as the Oroville Dam as the Oroville is the highest dam in the USA.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for all those downstream.  I hear the evacuations ordered now top 200,000.

We are back under another weather advisory this morning.  Snowing like crazy.

Environment Canada says:

"Snow, heavy at times, is expected during the morning commute with a few centimetres likely. Visibilities as low as 200 metres are possible. Quickly accumulating snow will result in snow covered roads."

Glad I can stay home. That will change for the next two days as my son will be dropping his two children off at our house at 7 am as he heads for work. Then we will be responsible for getting the grandkids to their school back in their neighbourhood for 9 am.  At least we will be going against the morning "rush hour" traffic coming into the city but it's still a 25 minute drive even on a good day.

Snow has stopped. I've cleaned the walkways and patio. The snow removal company came to clean the driveway then had to come back to clean up the end of the drive after the city plow came by.

One website says that as of Feb 6 (before the most recent accumulation) we had received 235 centimetres of snow ... that is 92 inches. We've had a lot more since Feb 6.

I am totally wintered out. Please, no more snow. Unfortunately there is more forecast for tonight and tomorrow. I want to be able to work outside in the garden. Can't wait to see what the contents are like in the compost bins.

Tomorrow should be our last day of rain/snow mix, then we're in for a stretch of nice weather. Makes me feel like spring may come early. Wish I had my indoor greens growing already. I'll start some this weekend.

70* F here today and upper 60's to lower 70's the rest of the week. CRAZY warm weather for Feb in zone 6a.
I've never seen a warm Feb like this in my life.

I worked outside in my garden yesterday (guess what I'm doing today?) in my shirtsleeves BUT ...... I know March is coming and we've had snow in March and even in early April.

Crazy warm. It got up to 67*F(~19*C) Shocked
I took the plastic entirely off my hoop houses (had it on, but up) and little protective boxes and put the plastic onto the raised beds to try snag some of the heat. I found some leeks, parsnips, and carrots 'in the way' and harvested them. I'm surprised/concerned that my straw mulch is still frozen to the MM over the garlic after such a warm day.
