Oh, dear! So glad you're okay, TD!

Here - it was partly cloudy and 71 this afternoon... Tomorrow should be just as nice. We'll be taking advantage of it & working on greenhouse walls!

We're in for 4 perfect days for spring gardening. Highs around 60, lows in the high 30s. Then the rain comes back for another week.  Mad

Snow seems to be the theme for winter 2017! We have about 2" on the ground again this morning, but the temps are great right at 32f! Really pleasant considering...

It was -10 this morning and now it is up to +10. The sky is sunny. I think a thaw may be heading our way. This winter has been on par with what we grew up expecting but have not seen for the last 10 years. Feels good to be able to ski around our fields every day. Having to ski the driveway because it drifted shut again is less pleasant. Rolling Eyes

In the low 50s right now & thunderstorms here in St. Louis which is strange for this time of year. Unseasonably warm this week with highs in the 50s. We were supposed to have some crazy ice-pocalpse this past weekend but that came to nothing. We did get ice but it melted the next day.

I'm having my roof scraped now, in anticipation of a thaw/melt within the next couple of days.  Many of my neighbors are doing the same.

However, there's additional snow (supposedly in small amounts) due again, beginning on Thursday.

Scorpio,

Perhaps I should have said swept, shoveled, and raked.

I now have a 6' berm of snow near my front door.  For a while early yesterday evening, it actually blocked my front door.  Fortunately the crew kept shoveling it aside.

A member of another crew shoveling next door actually fell off the roof.

We're supposed to get rain the next two to three days, but predictions as to amounts vary.   Here's a view of my street yesterday afternoon.

Central CA. First day of morning sun after several days of fog, high fog/low clouds. Next 7 days is supposed to be rain. Young grandsons are visiting this weekend and they won't be able to go out side to "grandma's plants." They have harvested sweet potatoes, snow peas, sun gold tomatoes, and "leaves" (Rainbow Swiss Chard, kale and bok choy).

Nice to get the grandchildren involved. Ours like to visit the veggie garden as well but not in winter when it is buried in snow.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?

No; various reports say it's been 25+ years since we've had snow like this in Central Oregon.

It's been nearly 7 weeks now that we've had snow on the ground.

Time to do seed inventory--for what probably will be a late planting season.

I recently spoke with a friend who's married to a meteorologist.  Although he's still doing research, he thinks that next winter will also be a "Big Winter."  He did predict this one....

I think we're near the beginning of a protracted cooling cycle.  If so, we'd best prepare accordingly so that, among other things, we can keep our SFGs growing.

74 degrees F and sunny.  We usually get A FEW warm days in the winter but this year we have had about 2 weeks above freezing even at night.

You'all remind me why I moved South!
A couple weeks ago the weather forcaster almost had a breakdown. Snow was predicted for 3 days. We had a few flakes falling. It melted as quick as it hit the warm ground. It's been upper 70's all week. My peas are planted, broccoli cut for 2nd time. I even had to water today! Spring broccoli  is up in pots about 2 in. All my spring bulbs are up, not blooming yet.
We really need to have just a bit of winter before spring!

Here in central Pennsylvania we are missing our winter blanket: It seems others have gotten our usual snow delivery. Sorry about that... can you figure out how to send that back here where it belongs?
Its oddly warm this week. Since it's therefore raining instead of giving us reflective 'dry' snow, it's foggy and dark...very dreary.

Scorpio,

In a previous post, I explained that nothing like this has happened here for at least 25 years.  It's QUITE atypical recently.  Nevertheless, I expect more of the same in future years.  Cycles, after all.  It was cold around the beginning of the 20th century, warm from around 1910 to 1940, cold from the 1940's to sometime in the '70s, then it warmed.  Then there was "the pause," and now it seems that things are rapidly cooling off.

I'm concerned about my buried plants and shrubs, especially after the roof was raked.
