Tonight is forecast to be even colder .. down to 3 Celsius 37.4F with a risk of frost. This could be the last day for some of my cold sensitive crops.  We have had a lost Summer and now an early frost is possible.
Sad That stinks, TD. Too much work for too little return. Sad

We're on the opposite end, with 4 more days of possibly record-breaking heat, and also a lost summer. Sad

Unseasonably cool here.  Supposed to get some rain as the remnants of Harvey make their way to our region.

Feels cool.

I went out to the SFG at 6 o'clock this morning to check for possible frost or frost damage. The roofs of the houses behind our house looked like they had a white film of light frost on them. Can't be sure.  Everything was super wet and as the temperture rose a thick fog came up as well. Will have to wait a while to see if there was any damage to the plants.

Thankfully, after last nights low temp the lows for the next few days will be in the 10C to 17C range (50 to 63F).

Not too bad here. We had a beautiful cool morning. The current temp is 82ºF but feels like 87ºF with the humidity. I haven't turned the ac on yet today but may do that soon since this about the time of day it seems to start getting hot in the house. But it sure was nice to air out the house.

Beautiful day here as well with clear blue skies and current temp of 68F.  Love it. Rain here tomorrow as well but a high of only 57F before we pop up to 73F on Monday.

CC ... It's amazing how the weather in your location is often similar to ours so many miles away.

TD, yes, I've noticed how similar our weather is. Which is why I can't figure out why my garden doesn't grow as well as yours does. Although I don't think I ever had the heat that you got this year. I think we were above 80 only twice.

When I first moved to Ottawa from St.Catharines a farmer told me that this area has a shorter growing season but the crops catch up due to the high temps and humidity. So you are probably right about the heat.

Sanderson, I'm reading your post this morning and your weather sticky says 83 degrees at 2:53 a.m. I can't even get to 83 in the middle of a midsummer day this year. I don't know how you live in that heat...? And now no AC?!

The smoke is so bad I had to wear a mask to water the garden.

This is our back yard. There should be clear blue sky and beautiful mountains in the background.

Yes, every year. Sometimes they're close enough to see the smoke. This one is over 50 miles away. I can't imagine how awful it must be for the people in its path. Sad I sure wish the wind would shift -- not just to clear our air, but make the stupid fire burn back on itself so maybe they could get it under control.  Evil or Very Mad Right now it's only 6% contained. Helena Fire Update

The building is our "Taj Mahal" chicken coop. It has 2 sides, since some of our chickens and our albino dove can't go out, so Hubby built them an aviary, complete with trees growing through the roof. It's fun to watch the little birds coming and going through the chicken wire. Very Happy

No way to get this replaced this long hot weekend. Glad I married this Texan.  Redneck ingenuity for replacing the condenser fan motor.  His son in Texas is an ac guy and suggested this as a temporary fix.  "Here, hold my beer, and watch this."  Install a square fan box on top to pull the hot air through.  New white fan set on top of larger old brown fan frame.  He's in the process of sealing/taping the gaps.  Already a cooler difference inside the house. I love you

Here we are, small bag packed for the night, in an air conditioned hotel.  Ah, blessed relief.  rahrah

Now, I am feeling ashamed of complaining as I watch the news about the folks in Harvey's path.  Wet, humid, homes and businesses destroyed, lack of electricity, no AC, fresh water or sewage capacity.  Fires in the West destroying thousands of acres, homes, businesses, farm animals and air quality.  Humbling.

Same here, except for the motel. The smoke is so bad here -- at least 50 miles from the nearest fire -- that it held the heat in overnight. It's 94 degrees at 8:55 in the morning. To the best of my knowledge that's a record-breaker by at least 15 degrees. I can't imagine how awful this is for outdoor animals that can't escape it. Sad
