Liz, Are you enjoying tomatoes right now? If so, what varieties to you grow in AZ?

Suz, Make hay will the sun shines! Don't have that dreaded "procrastination syndrome" like I tend to get. The freeze expected tonight and tomorrow night will probably do in my tomato plants so I can finish clearing that amended dirt strip. With the freeze, the leaves in the neighborhood should also start dropping and we can scavenge the neighbors' lawns. hiddenID

No procrastination, here. I'm just waiting for it to warm enough to go outside. It got down to 35 here last night. We have 10 gorgeous days in the forecast, so I have plenty of time to get it all done.  happy turtle

Woke up this morning to bright sunshine, 25° F, an intermittent breeze, and the birds are enjoying the feeders. I am enjoying our first accumulation of snow (4") this winter.

Hi 70s yesterday afternoon and going to be the same today. We are running +9 degrees above normal for the month. Doesn't look like we'll get any freezes this year.

Same here and not a drop of rain yet this month, either. I had to water the outside containers, yesterday. Hubby is building himself a workshop, so this gorgeous weather is perfect, but I'm starting to get nervous about everything drying out too much. Shocked

Today we have had about 12 hrs of wet sloppy snow .  So much that it couldn't melt fast enough towards darkness so we have a crist of ice 7 snow about 1.5 inches thick .

No doubt if it freezes ( forecast) tonight & drops more snow we will have  a very slippery time tomorrow morning .

Santa Ana winds.

Us lucky ones were just hot, dry and blasted by a mummifying wind.

We are bracing for our first big winter storm. Today's high is expected to be -10C (14F). The snow starts tonight with a total expected of 15 cm (6 inches) by Tuesday evening. I don't have my snowblower tuned up yet.

YIKES! Our "highs" won't even drop below 60 for the next 9 days. Rolling Eyes Things are really drying out here, too. I had to water the Salad Bar and containers -- unheard-of for December (except during the drought). Shocked

No. No rain, slight break in Santa Ana winds but they're coming back.  Thomas fire only 10℅ contained.  It was 15%, except it exploded by 57,000 acres from Sunday to Monday growing to over 237,000 acres.

The news was hyper focused on the little fire by the 405 and getty Center, kept glossing over the Thomas fire burning the 'hinterlands' of Ventura even while they updated numbers just showing explosive growth.

No end in sight for this "perfect" weather. For yet another 10 days, the rain line on the chart is flat. We only have a few days left in "surplus" for this season's rainfall. If something doesn't break soon, they'll be tossing out the "d" word again. They're already showing that dreaded drought map. Last year at this time, those @#$% fires wouldn't have had a chance with all the rain we had. This year . . .  Sad

Oh, the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Actually I did have somewhere to go (doctor's appointment). It was not a pleasant drive on snow covered roads. Glad to be home.

Cold and dreary here. Rain on the way.

All this talk of snow from you guys made me go out fill up a bucket with used MM and another with compost to put in the garage for seed starting in February. Everything outside will be frozen solid by then.
Thanks for the heads up!

The big Thomas Fire is the 5th largest fire in CA recorded history. The other 3 "red fires" affected the I-5, the 405 and the 210 freeways so that's probably why they were so reported. The Thomas fire is affecting towns, orchards including avacado, college, museum, killing thoroughbred horses, wiping out homes, farms, etc.
