10-day forecast looks like spring could start on Feb. 4. Fingers crossed. Still a long way off. Gotta see what develops in the next week. geek

I was going to do microgreens on the windowsill, but I've barely seen the sun in... two weeks? And I can't bring my growlights up from storage in the basement quite yet because I have a house guest; the growlights go in the guest bathroom and block the shower/tub from being used.
So I started my aerogarden 11 days ago, and I have a mitsuba sprout today! Yippy! First sprout of the year! I'll give the mint-pods a few more days before starting the basils (in the past, when I didn't stagger them, I couldn't keep up with the basils and they would shade out the other plants very quickly.)

Started to top of my beds with Mel's mix today, should have it done by tomorrow and picked up a few plants from my local nursery. I can hardly wait. I'm so excited.  bounce

The weatherman giveth and the weatherman taketh away. Those last 2 beautiful spring days have now changed to rain and added themselves to the previous 4. It will be another 4 days after that before the garden area dries out enough for me to get in there, so that means at least 2 more weeks of winter for me no matter what the groundhog says. Sad

Peas are the only crop actually growing right now, so I check on them 10 times a day.  bounce Since I can't be out there all the time, I posted a guard. The little pea plants are down below Coco, looking good so far.

One week from today the weatherman says it's gonna be clear and 62, then 67 and 69 to round out the 10-day forecast. Fingers crossed spring is really just a week away, here.  bounce

I'm happy for you but you are making me cry. We won't see temps consistently in the 60s until about May. Our average max temp in May is 65 and the average low is 45. Yikes ... why do I live here? Sad

You could move, but it might not help: I moved four hours south from where I grew up... but gained nothing. I'm in the still in the same garden zone! Shocked

Nope, we're planted here forever. I gripe a lot, but compared to other places, like Chicago for example, we're living in Paradise!

Got it bad....

OK, you know garden fever has you in it's grip when you find yourself mindlessly turning your friend's house plants to compensate for the phototropism they are exhibiting.....Embarassed....yes.....did it....

Who cares about spring? Now that I've discovered my super power -- winter gardening -- it just doesn't matter when spring gets here. In fact, the longer it waits, the better off I'll be.  Cool Razz

I'd say me and TD plus anyone else in the north cares about spring haha.  No such thing as winter gardening under 3 feet of snow and high temps of -5F.  That was 2 weeks ago. Nown it's actually really unseasonably warm (highs in the 40s!!!)  So I've actually been walking around outside in a tee shirt.  I've  seen more than a few people out and about in shorts too.  It really is a crazy February heat wave!

Haha! I've been tempted. Ever since working a stint in retail some years ago, I cannot resist facing the shelves at the stores I shop at. (For those of you who've never worked in retail... "facing" = arranging products on the shelves so they look fully stocked and all the labels face the right direction.)

I want some of that mojo! I might need a place that gets sun in the winter, though. This is one reason we're considering moving... neighbor's trees are blocking our winter sun.

It's amazing what winter sun can do. My little cauliflower was the size of a quarter when I found it. After one day of sun, it was the size of a half dollar. After day 2 in the sun, it was the size of a dollar. Now we're back in the dark, dreary rainy days and everything's on hold again. Inside, flowers and fruit take 2-3 times as long to develop under artificial light as they do when the sun comes out.

We lived in Oregon for a few years, on a beautiful piece of land, but I couldn't garden because there wasn't a single patch of it that wasn't surrounded by huge trees. We had no sun to work with anywhere. I had a container of tomatoes I kept moving around that never could produce any ripe fruit. Sad

Been working most of the morning trying to get some pictures sent of my reworked garden beds. The first two shoes how my shade works either down for protection or up for morning sun or working in the beds
