Farro salad with sweet garden tomatoes and balsamic vinaigrette. Should have had some parsley, but I was out. It's delish anyway!

Salsa made with roasted tomatillos, roasted hot peppers, roasted garlic, onion and parsley (I didn't have any cilantro). All of those ingredients came from the SFG. To that was added coarse salt. The ingredients were puréed by pulsing in the Vitamix. The result ... yikes!!! Very hot salsa ... my tongue is burning. It's very good but I overdid the hot peppers for my taste.

Tonight we had Chinese chicken & shittake boiled dumplings & a stir fry .
 In the stir fry that Alison made from scratch we had with it was one of the last capsicum peppers  out the glass house .
It was supposed to be black or a very very dark aubergene colour  but the bad summer weather we've had this year turned it red , green , yellow , purple in many different places of the skin .

Still, it was a nice evening meal .

Made myself an "everything salad" from things only grown in our veggie garden. Ingredients included kale, chard, lettuce, mizuna, onion, zucchini, tomatoes, peas, icicle radish and even some ground cherries. So many different flavors. No salad dressing needed. Unfortunately for Mrs TD she cannot digest greens very well so this was all for me.

First ripe tomato.  To be honest , it wasn't great.  It's a heatwave II.  I ripened it indoors inside an empty 12 pack box.  I had another tomato and a banana in there.  I read that helps it to ripen.  I now have 75% ( the ones without pests bites or damage of some sort) covered with pantyhose, so I will be letting them ripen on the vine assuming they don't start splitting. This tomato wasn't  much of any better than store bought.  Not bad as that's all I'm used to eating, but I hope the next ones are better.  I also have celebrity, but none of them are turning yet!

Exactly Scorpio,  you were right on all accounts. The tomato was starting to get softer, but wasn't fully red.  I didn't understand that.  I didn't know whether to let it continue to ripen and gut mushy or to cut it when I did.  I'm doubting it would have gotten more juicy if I had let it continue to ripen ?  
Do you guys know of some causes that a tomato get mealy and not juicy?

It is not unheard of that seeds are mislabeled....I have had it happen at least 3 times.  I looked at the description of heatwave II and it certainly looks like a winner for your growing area, Brian...

Hmmm.  It worked when I clicked it.  Go to Veggiegardener dot com and search for hot weather tomatoes and see if that get you there....

Oooo, man, I love pickles, just didn’t get any cukes this year....

Today I roasted some Yukon Golds chunked up with chicken thighs all in the same dish with Tony Chachere’s Creole seasoning!!!!!  WOW!!!!  Add a generous dollop of sour cream, and you are home!  Just a whole different experience than grocery taters....creamy and buttery all on their own.  drooling

Salad for lunch

Fall peas were successful! Had the peas with languishing tomatoes, quinoa, and smoked scallops topped with lemon butter Parmesan sauce that used one of my little red onions and one of my big Music garlic cloves, and a some of my tarragon.

Potato Leek Soup made from Leeks grown in the ANSFG ... delicious. It was crazy in the kitchen as Mrs TD was baking apple pies while I made the soup.

I started by melting some unsalted butter then added in the Leeks and a couple cloves of crushed Garlic (grown in the ANSFG).



After the Leeks were cooked I added the Potatoes, a few twigs of Thyme (from the SFG Table Top), a couple of Bay Leaves, Chicken Broth, Salt and Pepper. When the potatoes got soft I removed the thyme and bay leaves, then used a hand held blender to make the whole thing smooth. After that I added in some heavy cream and let the whole thing simmer.



This is a half-full "trial" bowl of the soup. It has some Chives (from our garden) scattered on top.

From my garden: carrots, potatoes, garlic, onions.  Made the cabbage sausage potato soup recipe from Facebook, I will try to find it.  Really good!  Gimme some oven....that is the site.
