Hello from IA Zone 5

Post  nrstooge on 2/20/2017, 11:14 am

I did SFG years ago when I had a rental house.  I've been in an apartment for years but it was on 3rd floor and west facing - not good for plants at all.

Now, I'm on first floor with a TEENSY bit of earth between my patio and the building I'm allowed to do what I want with, along with containers on the patio.  Will see what tall things I can get into the actual land (after adding amendments to the soil and the rest will be in containers.  Not optimal, but better than nothing.  Someday I hope to have a small yard again so I can do a true  SFG.

Welcome nrstooge from Ottawa, Canada.

Have you seen the All New Square Foot Gardening book? A lot of things have changed for the better since Mel published his first SFG book.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with your "teensy" garden.

NRstooge, Welcome to the Forum from Central California! glad you\'re here Mel's Mix, made using the All New Square Foot Gardening formula, is great in containers. Tomatoes do well in 5-gallon buckets and a lot of small plants like peppers and eggplants do well in larger 12" pots, herbs in smaller pots. When I first started ANSFG in 2013, I had 31 pots to supplements my limited raised beds. Have fun!
