Event to promote SFG in France

Post  raymondaitken on 5/14/2010, 2:52 pm

Recently, for the 1st May, I helped organise a day of discovery of SFG at Forcalquier in the south of France. (SFG in French is "Potager en carrés").

You can see some photos of the event, and the information panels we created (in French), at this blog: http://potager-en-carres.blogspot.com/

We also got a very good article in the regional newspaper "La Provence".

As well as the information panels, we had a demonstration of making vermicompost, a workshop with the children, who made the magic Mel's mix and planted their salads, tomatoes and flowers in small 2 x 2 boxes that we made from recycled pallets, which they could take home. We also sold plants, and finished with a delicious spaghetti meal cooked on site and eaten in the local cafe.

The text and pictures for the information panels were mostly taken from Mel's latest book, as well as the SFG site (and translated into French). It is interesting to note that the books that exist in French still follow the original method of improving the existing soil on site. The French don't seem to know about Mel's mix.

Bien fait!

You're in such a gorgeous area -- we holidayed in Sablet a few years ago, and are planning to head back down this autumn.

You might want to contact this lady: Anne-Marie Nagleisen -- she's a French lady who posted on the old SFG forum. Her website is http://www.potagerencarres.info/ -- she's in the Bourgogne region. She's got a lot of information on her site...but frankly, I just haven't had the time to cross-index what she has posted with the new book.
